Description Conduct thorough floristic surveys, which includes documenting abundance and distribution of rare and sensitive species on company lands (Humboldt, Del Norte & Trinity counties) in order to minimize potential impacts to populations.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: (other duties may be assigned) The following is a list of general job responsibilities for the Seasonal Botanical Field Technician position. This list is not all-inclusive and may be broadened or changed to meet changing business needs.

Under the direction of the Botanist the employee will: •Conduct seasonally appropriate floristic surveys in a variety of habitats (documenting all species encountered). •Identify rare or sensitive plant species and associated habitat encountered and thoroughly document their abundance, distribution and potential threats. •Utilize the Jepson manual to key unknown plants; pressing and annotating voucher specimens where appropriate. •Maintain detailed, legible and accurate records of work completed, e.g. survey forms, survey routes, location maps of sensitive plant populations and unique habitat features observed. •Conduct botanical research and monitoring duties as needed. •Collaborate with peers to complete time-sensitive field surveys in an efficient and professional manner. •Participate actively in Company safety program.

Qualifications •Completed or currently pursuing a degree in a University botany program or related field. •Current valid driver’s license. •Must be able to successfully pass a qualifying course in ATV training. •Positive attitude, enthusiasm for botany and the desire to improve one’s skills as a professional botanist. •Experience identifying plants, by sight in the field and with the aid of keys, e.g. Jepson Manual. •Excellent observational skills and a demonstrated ability to gather precise data. •Team player who has flexibility and physical ability to work the required hours including overtime. •Must be self-motivated with a strong work ethic and have the ability to prioritize work in order of importance to maintain efficiency and accuracy of the job on a daily basis. •Demonstrated ability to navigate with the aid of map, compass and/or GPS. •Some overnight travel may be required. •Ability to orient, climb, and traverse steep rugged, densely vegetated terrain on a consistent basis in in sometimes harsh weather conditions for long periods of time. •Must have ability to work independently and without immediate supervision in remote areas. •Works in conditions that may expose employee wildlife encounters, poison oak and/or insect bites. •Must maintain punctual and regular attendance and present appropriate professional appearance at all times. •Requires the use of standard safety equipment in regulation with GDRCo. •This position may be exposed to marking paint, pollens, fern spores, dust. •Ability to drive long distances on highways and seasonal dirt roads. •Ability to load and unload ATV into a pickup truck.
