As the Regional Lead for Coastal Modelling, you will lead a team of specialist numerical modellers from juniors through to experts. You and your team will be working on a number of ports and maritime engineering projects throughout the Middle East. You should be a committed and motivated leader with significant technical experience and passion for numerical modelling and coastal engineering. You should have a track record that shows expert technical skills and team leadership.

You will be responsible for the technical delivery of associated numerical modelling tasks providing support to port, maritime, and coastal engineering design projects. You will be responsible for directing the team to perform coastal processes numerical modelling related computations as well as any required pre- and post-modeling calculations and data analysis. You will be responsible for overseeing the technical delivery of project tasks including preparation of reports and presentation of modelling results and recommendations. You will be expected to coach junior modelers in technical aspects of coastal modelling.

Your role will involve significant client and regulatory authority interaction and presentations, both for technical project delivery and work winning efforts.

You will be required to interact and coordinate with Jacobs global coastal numerical modelling and coastal engineering team by representing the Middle East Region. Coordinating global resources and support amongst these teams as well as participating in technical knowledge sharing amongst the global teams.

Experience of the following is preferable:

  • Strong track record of leadership of coastal numerical modelling teams. Good people management skills.
  • Technical leadership in delivering coastal modelling and related tasks.
  • Excellent communication, with strong verbal and excellent written English and presentation skills.
  • Strong client and authority/stakeholder facing skills. Ability to communicate confidently and effectively with colleagues, clients, and regulatory authorities.
  • You should be comfortable engaging with internal and external clients to develop relationships.
  • Ability to construct and run a range of coastal models (1-D, 2-DH, 2-DV and 3D models) including models for waves, hydrodynamics, sediment transport, shoreline evolution, etc.
  • Fluency with 2D and 3D numerical modeling tools such as the MIKE by DHI suite, Delft3D tools, TELEMAC, SWAN, USACE tools, etc., is a must.
  • Carry out data analysis in connection with a range of modelling projects.
  • Experience with CFD tools, mooring analysis, and mooring software (e.g., MIKE 21 MA, Optimoor) and/or fast-time navigation studies (e.g., using SHIPMA) is beneficial but not strictly required.
  • Experience with physical modelling would be beneficial.
  • You must be able to manage your own time and that of junior modelers / team members to ensure successful delivery of tasks.
  • You will be expected to participate and lead technical proposal preparation.
  • You will enjoy working as part of an international team of experts.

Here's What You'll Need:

As a successful candidate you will have an advanced degree in Mathematics, Science or Engineering (MS or PhD preferred from a recognized University) as well as having 15+ years of experience with coastal engineering, particularly around coastal modeling. Experience working in the Middle East is advantageous, as is being a qualified member of a recognized institution or organization (to include but not necessarily be limited to ASCE, ICE, IMarEST, etc.).
