About the centre
Led by Professor Bryce Vissel, the Centre pursues research in the neuroscience of cognition, movement and related neurological diseases. The Centre is divided into various overlapping and complementary research streams, directed to high impact research related to understanding the underlying molecular and cellular mechanisms involved. The Centre aims to become a sustainable, world-leading hub of research excellence, working to achieve transformative outcomes for sufferers of neurological diseases through employing a novel, trans-disciplinary approach. You will support the centre in this endeavour, including the development of research funding applications and contribution to world-standard research outcomes.
About the role
The position will expand your research profile and career, pursuing leading-edge research at the forefront of Behavioural Neuroscience research, working with members of the Centre to create a body of work that is ground breaking and distinctive.
You will be expected to establish a new project within the Centre for Neuroscience and Regenerative Medicine directed at demonstrating functional neurogenesis following acute injury. You will establish a unique research direction and, subject to funding, success and availability, build your own research sub-team.
You can expect to work closely with the Centre Director, Professor Bryce Vissel and other senior team members to develop a research plan for the project, and will play a leading role in the execution of this plan. You will utilise a number of techniques and will run studies as well as work closely and collaboratively within a high-performing group.
A collaborative researcher, you will have undertaken PhD or equivalent studies in a related discipline and will have extensive post-doctoral experience specifically in Neurogenesis research or a closely aligned research area. Additionally, you should be able to demonstrate a high level of experience in a wide variety of in vivo approaches in rodents and molecular and cell biology techniques, including; stem and/or primary cell cultures, immunohistochemistry, stereology, microscopy (light, confocal and image analysis) as well as biochemical and proteomic techniques as well as sophisticated neuroscience studies in in vivo and in vitro such as opto-genetic approaches. High level of experience working with rodents, including animal handling, behavioural testing and stereotaxic surgeries is also required. Similarly you will be able to demonstrate a track record of scientific publications and successful applications for research funding of research with impact relevant to an appointment at this level.
Remuneration & Benefits
Base Salary Range: $99,924 to $135,725 pa (Level B/C)
This role attracts 17% superannuation in addition to the base salary. Employee benefits include flexible work practices, child care centres, generous parental leave and salary packaging opportunities.
This position is full-time and appointment will be made on a fixed term basis for five years.
