Job Purpose

Global Credit Financing (GCF) is a financing business focused on the origination, asset financing, and securitization activities of various debt based products for the Bank’s core clients. GCF is a product vertical under the Global Markets Financing and Resource Management Group (GMF-RMG) which manages the allocation, deployment, and optimization of financial resources such as capital and balance sheet on behalf of and across the Global Markets Division.

The successful candidate will be involved in the distribution of structured finance securities such as asset-backed securities (ABS), collateralized loan obligations (CLOs), residential mortgage-backed securities (RMBS) and commercial mortgage-backed securities (CMBS) to investors through the syndication of these debt offerings. The role operates in a fast-paced trading floor environment. The incumbent’s mandate is to focus on activities that will help drive the growth of the GCF business in the US. 

Key Accountabilities

Major Activities:

  • Working with other members of the GCF Syndication team, lead the ABS syndication activities with the objective of ensuring the successful distribution of transactions while minimizing any underwriting risk to CIBC
  • Liaising internally with the Global Markets sales, trading and structuring teams and externally with other syndicate desks regarding new ABS issues while also supporting CLO transactions
  • Preparing any necessary documentation and assisting in the process for internal deal review and approval
  • Cultivate relationships with and maintain on-going coverage of key US structured finance investors, in conjunction with the Global Markets sales professionals to determine market demand and reverse enquiry opportunities
  • Cultivate relationships with and maintain on-going coverage of US and Canadian structured finance issuers, in conjunction with GCF team members
  • Support the broader growth of our US GCF business through the development of CIBC’s structured finance distribution/syndication/trading platform
  • Provide on-going market color and investor feedback to issuers
  • Develop and maintain relationships with syndication desks at other dealers

Knowledge and Skills

  • In depth understanding of fixed income markets and bond fundamentals with an emphasis on ABS;
  • Expertise in the CLO, RMBS and CMBS market will also be an asset
  • Previous ABS syndication experience or demonstrated ability to perform the role;
  • Team player who excels at working collaboratively with others in a group setting;
  • Strong oral communication skills, incorporating the ability to explain detailed financial analysis;
  • Strong client relationship skills, with a demonstrated ability to foster and grow deep relationships with both issuer and investor clients;
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to multi-task; and
  • Efficient organizational skills to respond to shifting priorities on several simultaneous transactions.

Working Conditions

  • This role operates within a normal office environment;
  • Open concept trading floor environment with exposure to noise and distractions;
  • Ability to handle tight deadlines and heavy workload, the result of which is the requirement to work outside normal business hours;
  • Ability to travel for work as required to support the origination and execution of mandates with clients; and
  • Required to make frequent decisions in a fast paced work environment

At CIBC, we offer a competitive total rewards package. This role has an expected salary range of $250,000 for the New York, NY market based on experience, qualifications, and location of the position. The successful candidate may be eligible to participate in the relevant business unit’s incentive compensation plan, which also may include a discretionary bonus component.
