JOB SUMMARY

The primary objective of the position is to foster resilient communities by working closely with internal and external stakeholders to design and implement effective resilience-building initiatives that directly benefit populations in areas impacted by conflict and natural disasters. The aim is to empower communities to withstand and recover from shocks, ensuring long-term sustainability and improved quality of life.

MAIN TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES 

  • Engage with leaders and stakeholders in conflict and earthquake-affected communities, along with operational partners, to identify resilience needs and opportunities at the community level. 
  • Lead the design and implementation of community-focused resilience projects, ensuring alignment with broader health and MHPSS program goals. 
  • Conduct targeted assessments in affected areas to understand resilience deficits, to understand community vulnerabilities and develop tailored strategies to address them. 
  • Provide expertise and guidance on best practices in health and MHPSS resilience to internal teams and local partners. 
  • Collaborate with external experts, specialists, and potential donors to garner support and resources for community resilience projects in conflict and earthquake-affected areas. 
  • Represent International Medical Corps in the Syria Community Consortium and other relevant platforms and forums to contribute effectively as per agreed roles and responsibilities for such forums to implement and advance our resilience initiatives. 
  • Monitor and assess the impact of resilience strategies and interventions on community well-being, adapting approaches as necessary to meet evolving needs. 
  • Support and facilitate community empowerment through capacity-building initiatives aimed at enhancing local resilience in challenging environments. 
  • Key deliverables include: 
  • Detailed reports on community resilience needs in conflict and earthquake-affected areas and the efficacy of implemented strategies. 
  • Strategic action plans for resilience building tailored to the specific needs of affected communities. 
  • Regular updates on the progress of community resilience projects and their outcomes in affected areas. 
  • Documentation and dissemination of best practices and success stories in community resilience from conflict and earthquake-affected regions.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS 

  • Advanced degree in a relevant field such as community development, public health, or international development. 
  • Minimum of 5 years of professional experience in community engagement, resilience building, or related fields, with a specific focus on health and MHPSS in conflict and earthquake-affected environments. 
  • Demonstrated success in developing and implementing community-centered health and MHPSS resilience initiatives within complex and challenging environments. 
  • Extensive knowledge of health system strengthening and its building blocks, with experience in applying these principles to enhance health services in resource-limited settings. 
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a capacity for conducting thorough assessments in affected communities. 
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a proven record of effective collaboration with diverse community groups. 
  • Fluency in both English and Arabic (written and spoken).
