ABOUT THIS POSITION

The Parks and Recreation Department provides residents and visitors with more than 41,000 acres of desert parks and mountain preserves. The parks feature 41 trailheads more than 200 miles of trails, and 185 city parks. Additionally, there are 32 community and recreation centers, classes, and sports programs for all ages, 29 pools, eight golf courses, and a various specialty and cultural venues and facilities.

This role provides recreational programming or facility coordination services for recreation programs. Responsibilities include planning, organizing, scheduling, coordinating, and implementing recreational activities, events, and classes based on community's recreational. As well as prepare and promote recreational activities for the assigned site. In addition to recreation programs the Recreation Programmer will hold supervisory duties for part-time recreation employees such as recreation leaders, recreation instructors, and parks and recreation aides and volunteers. Other duties may include but are not limited to tracking the location and possession of keys and equipment, maintaining financial and activity records such as accepting cash and credit card payments for a variety of services/programs, and entering contract information. This position carries a unique work schedule that requires closing the facility on nights and weekends.

IDEAL CANDIDATE

  • Relevant teaching experience and/or leadership skills are strongly preferred.
  • Willing to teach 4 or more classes per week at multiple locations.
  • Proficiency in computer programs such as MS Office.
  • Knowledge in one of the following technical fields: Programming in Java, HTML, Web Development, 3D Modeling and robotics.
  • Ability to communicate in Spanish is desired.

SALARY

Pay Range: $20.02 - $34.25 per hour.

Hiring Range: $20.02 - $26.83 per hour.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Associate's degree in recreation, leisure studies, or area of recreational specialization.
  • One year of recreation experience.
  • Other combinations of education and experience which meet the minimum requirements may be substituted.

The minimum qualifications listed above, plus:

  • Experience in automated registration/reservation systems.
  • Experience in financial management and cash handling.
  • Experience in marketing programs.
  • Experience in planning and managing recreation programs and sports leagues.
  • Experience in supervising staff and volunteers.
  • Experience in working special events.
  • Experience in working with the public and providing customer service.
  • Experience in working in an afterschool program or childcare setting.
  • Experience in working with community groups and developing partnerships.
