ERM is seeking an experienced Senior Wetland Ecologist/Botanist with consulting experience to play a key role in implementing our existing programs in Sacramento or Walnut Creek. The ideal candidate will have served as a senior leader and has a track record of high-quality deliverables, team building, and excellent client communication skills and responsiveness. This is a fast-track opportunity for a senior-level professional looking to advance their career with a global environmental leader, on existing contracts. The role will be predominantly desktop with an expectation to oversee and lead field work throughout the state.

RESPONSIBILITIES: 

  • Perform, train junior staff, and oversee aquatic resource delineations and assessments in the field using ESRI fieldmaps and sub-meter GPS data collection. 
  • Perform, train junior staff, and oversee rare plant surveys and vegetation community mapping in the field.
  • Lead preparation of biotic reports, aquatic resources assessment, jurisdictional delineations (JDs) and associated mitigation plans in compliance with state and federal requirements, serving in roles ranging from lead technical expert to QA/QC.
  • Achieve client’s expectations for scope, budget, schedule, and quality.
  • Maintain positive relationships with clients and public agencies.
  • Other duties may include natural resource surveys, field team management, and providing specialized site assessments.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • BS or MS in biology, environmental science, plant ecology or similar field with experience pertaining to a specialized biological training or field.
  • 4 years required. At least 7 years preferred of consulting experience, with a minimum of 5 years in a senior role, that involves oversight, QA/QC, technical writing, survey design, impact assessment, and multi-agency permitting.
  • Solid grasp of the key biological or wetland ecology impact assessment and management issues within the public utility sector, as well as a high degree of technical competence and broad knowledge of impact assessment best practices.
  • Holds a CDFW 2081(a) voucher collection permit for plants. Expertise navigating the Jepson manual and Manual of California Vegetation.
  • An exceptional candidate will also be CNPS certified botanist status.
  • Expertise with navigating current state and federal environmental regulations.
  • Recognized technical expertise by and established reputation in the marketplace, including positive reputation with key regulators relevant to impact assessment approvals. 
  • Well-developed team building and influencing skills; unquestioned integrity; and the experience and confidence to effectively address client and business needs and challenges. 
  • Positive outlook, collaborative, and driven by the success of ERM as a global company.

For the Managing Consultant, Wetland Ecologist (Senior Level) position, we anticipate the annual base pay of $76,000 – $94,860 (CAD/USD). An employee’s pay position within this range will be based on several factors including, but not limited to, relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, geographic location, performance, shift, travel requirements, sales or revenue-based metrics, and business or organizational needs. We also may have instances where compensation may be outside of the range, based on the factors noted above. This job is also eligible for an annual discretionary based performance bonus.
