Job Summary:

The Senior Business Analyst, working under the direction of the Associate Director, Project Management, is responsible for providing business analysis for Plan Operations relating to all components of pension administration. As Senior Business Analyst, the incumbent will frequently lead small to medium-sized initiatives. In addition, the Senior Business Analyst will support all Plan Operation initiatives; lead business case development as well as other ad-hoc analysis, develop and maintain procedural updates to support new initiatives, support the development of or changes to business processes, support the delivery of business deliverables for assigned initiatives, interact with HOOPP IT, external vendor(s) and other HOOPP Divisions; coach and mentor Business Analysts within the group. 

What you will do:

  • Understand and apply advanced business analysis and project management principles; documentation and plan development for system enhancements including but not limited to Retirements, Terminations, Deaths, Leaves, Buy Back as well as a variety of systems such as Insight, HOOPP Insight, Connect, Ariel DB, and Ariel Pay. 
  • As called upon, manage small projects following established project management standards of practice.
  • Display a considerable degree of judgement to identify, analyze and recommend the best solution from a given set of alternatives, for a range of business issues including those which are complex in nature.
  • Coach/mentor junior/intermediate Business Analysts within the group.
  • Assist in the development and maintenance of standards of practice with respect to business analysis.
  • Oversee the development of documentation developed by junior/intermediate Business Analysts within the group and provide guidance enabling the Business Analysts to complete their assignments with good quality.
  • Demonstrate excellent relationship management skills for maintaining relationships both within all HOOPP Divisions and for key outside professionals.
  • Working within and at times defining the parameters around which we develop and execute work plans to meet objectives.
  • Responsible for the completion of documentation on behalf of the Operations Support group.
  • Influence and educate stakeholders, applying appropriate diplomacy to ensure collaboration amongst all project participants, which may include other Divisions and external contacts.
  • Coordinate and lead Retrospective Evaluations by means of analyzing and documenting the efficiency of each system implementation or iteration inclusive of new issues and metrics achieved because of the release.

What you bring:

  • University degree or post-graduate and/or combination of equivalent training, education and experience is required;
  • Seven to ten years of in-depth knowledge of Business Analysis techniques and methodologies
  • Experience with and ability to appropriately apply complex business analysis methodologies that best fit the assignment; examples are quantification of the current state (weighted decision tables), root cause analysis, and mapping techniques (functional decomposition).
  • Knowledge of Project Life Cycle, project management techniques and methodologies
  • CBAP or PMP designation is an asset
  • Pension Plan Administrative Certificate (PPAC) and/or Certified Employee Benefit Specialist Program (CEBS) and/or other pension-related training courses are assets
  • HOOPP business knowledge would be an asset
  • Knowledge of pension plan administration and governing legislation and regulations – HOOPP Plan Text and policies, Pension Benefits Act, Income Tax Act, Family Law Act, and Employment Standards Act, are assets
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications is required, including MS Project/Visio knowledge
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent written communication skills to articulate business needs accurately (requirements/design) from both a detailed and high-level perspective.
  • Strong attention to detail as the work is not subject to direct verification.
  • Client-centric and collaborative attitude, building strong and influential relationships with members of Plan Operations, other departments within HOOPP and vendor(s)
  • Knowledge of systems and relevant software applications
  • High level of initiative and professionalism.
  • Team player with excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent time management skills with the ability to plan, organize and prioritize work assignments, for self and others.
  • Able to lead and manage multiple simultaneous deliverables within the expected timelines.
