GENERAL SUMMARY

Under the direction of the Executive Director of Strategy for the Community College of Denver (CCD), the Marketing & Communications department is responsible for the College’s public website, including content management, internal support, SEO and advancement of the ccd.edu user experience through high-value content writing. The Web Content Specialist will play an important part in the continued advancement of the website through writing SEO-rich content and providing both guidance and support for content editors across the College.

The ideal candidate for this position has a background in website content development, as well as experience in supporting clients with website needs. The Web Content Specialist will work closely with internal stakeholders to improve both the web content and the user experience. This position includes supporting CCD through the web support intake system, implementing the College’s public website governance plan, and will work very closely with content editors across the College and the Web Advisory Board to enhance the ccd.edu user experience.

Description of Job

PRIMARY DUTIES

Web Content Writing

  1. Write, edit, and maintain content on the CCD.edu website to ensure accurate, up-to-date, engaging, and SEO-rich content that attracts potential new students, inform the target audience, and reinforces the college brand.
  2. Evaluate and improve existing content across ccd.edu sites for the purpose of improving SEO value for ccd.edu and all connected sites.
  3. Meet with subject matter experts to write program-specific content.
  4. Create innovative, cohesive, and intuitive front-end user interface designs.

Website Support

  1. Support departments across campus in managing and improving their ccd.edu pages.
  2. Curate website submissions and enhance and maintain existing content.
  3. Conduct training for content editors across the College.
  4. Become an expert in the content management system.

Overall

  1. Implement the College’s public website governance plan.
  2. Serves as lead for the College’s website advisory board.
  3. Proactively monitor the site for branding, user experience, and ADA Sec. 508 compliance. 
  4. Maintain standards for content/graphics. Evaluate usability and utilization of web pages. Oversee content graphics including size and optimization of photos. 
  5. Ensure the CCD website has effective internal search engine optimization and strategy. Work with appropriate external consultants to implement SEO strategies. Obtain and refresh keywords for targeting; optimize landing pages to improve performance and search engine visibility. Use metadata and other methods to optimize search engine positions.
  6. Manage web analytics to set benchmarks, analyze visitor trends, and develop strategies to increase traffic.
  7. Establish protocol and format of quarterly analytics reports for the marketing team. Manage web analytics to set benchmarks, analyze visitor trends, and develop strategies to increase traffic.
  8. Contributes to the overall success of the College by performing other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications, Substitutions, Conditions of Employment & Appeal Rights

Any equivalent combination of education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities.

Education: (required/minimum) 

  • Associate degree or General Studies.

Experience: (required/minimum) 

  • Three (3) years of direct experience writing, editing, and generating digital content for the web. 
  • Three (3) years of experience writing for the web.
  • Experience developing content strategies and multichannel content creation for different target demographics. 
  • Experience with HTML and content management systems for the web. 

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

  • Must be organized and have extremely strong written and oral communication skills. 
  • Computer literacy and ability to use Outlook and Microsoft Office applications to manage own work. Demonstrated editor, team player, and communicator. 
  • Proven editorial skills and strong command of the English language and AP style.
  • Excellent troubleshooting skills and organizational abilities
  • Knowledge of current trends in user testing, web usability, accessibility, and mobile platforms
  • Working knowledge of Windows, OS X, and Linux or Unix; Microsoft Office applications; and web development tools
  • Ability to interact and effectively communicate with a diverse employee and student population.
  • Ability to plan and manage own workflow, priorities, and accomplishments in a multi-tasking dynamic environment
  • Knowledge of video editing software is helpful.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: 

Education: (preferred)

Bachelor's Degree in Web Development, Communications, English, Journalism or related field.

Experience: (preferred)

  • Intermediate knowledge of web technologies, including HTML.
  • Experience with a content management system such as Drupal, Hannon Hill Cascade Server, or WordPress.
  • UX/UI experience. 
  • Experience using Adobe Photoshop.

Licensure/Certification: N/A 

Equipment Used: 

Phone, Computer, copier, fax and other office equipment; Microsoft Outlook, Office, Drupal web content management system, Word Press, Adobe Photoshop and knowledge of Adobe Creative Suites software is helpful.

Other Considerations: 

Mobility, flexibility of schedule (some early mornings, evenings and weekend work required), attention to detail.
