APAC Sales Manager/Director - Technologies

Mueller designs, manufactures and sells a range of technologies and services, including Echologics, i2O and Hydroguard to address water supply challenges across the world. In the APAC region we provide our products & services to water utilities in Singapore, Malaysia, the Philippines, Indonesia, China, Japan, Taiwan, Australia and New Zealand and are looking to expand our presence in these markets.

We are looking for a Sales Manager/Director to join our International Technology Sales team to help drive growth of our Water Management Applications portfolio in the APAC region.

Ideally based in either Singapore or Malaysia and reporting to the International Sales Director, the successful candidate will be expected to grow sales with current clients and identify and nurture new sales opportunities with clients across our target country landscape. You will work with channel partners including distributors, resellers, value-added resellers and with Mueller sales colleagues across our Infrastructure portfolio in the region to develop and close sales opportunities. Through a combination of technology evangelism, networking and the use of solution-selling methodologies to align our offerings with customer needs, the APAC Sales Manager/Director will position Mueller as the leading provider of technology solutions for aging water infrastructure and non-revenue water challenges faced across the region.

You will be a self-starter and with experience of all stages of the sales process, from prospecting to closing. You will have experience building a personal business network and managing channel partners and enterprise-wide relationships within water utilities. Additionally, you will develop and implement strategies and plans to expand the customer base and network of channel partners across the territory. The position may involve up to 50% travel for meetings with clients within the sales territory.

Responsibilities for the position include:

  • Overall responsibility for delivering sales targets within the assigned territory.
  • Contribute to the formulation and execution of the go-to-market strategy and plan for the territory, including provision of specific market requirements within the area of responsibility to align with the overall company strategy.
  • Management and development of existing client relationships with both end-clients and channel partners. This includes management of strategic partners with their own sales teams.
  • Collaboration with peers in the Sales and Marketing teams to determine marketing needs to support lead generation and market positioning across the territory.
  • Preparation of quotations, technical proposals, RFP and tender responses, presentations, etc.
  • Negotiating and closing sales and tenders, and provide after-sales support services including account farming.
  • Marketing support, such as attending conferences, presenting at webinars, drafting content for technical papers and case studies.
  • Extensive travel throughout the prescribed region as required.
  • Other duties as may be assigned by the company from time to time.

Position Minimum Requirements:

  • An engineering degree with a minimum of 5-years’ experience in a sales or business development role in the water sector. Alternative qualifications and experience will be considered.
  • A demonstrable track record of selling technology solutions into the water industry, with experience in the B2B environment supported by solid business acumen.
  • Experience in bidding/proposal preparation and the ability to read and understand specifications, both from a technical and commercial perspective.
  • Knowledge of target clients, markets and drivers relevant to the markets Mueller technology products & services sell into, including the current market structure (e.g. regulation and concessions).
  • Proven track record of exceeding established sales quotas.
  • Language fluency in English and excellent working knowledge of MS Office (Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint)

Preferred Experience and Qualifications:

  • Trained and proficient in solution-selling and/or consultancy sales methodologies.
  • Technical experience in the fields of non-revenue water management, leak detection, pressure management, asset management and pipeline condition assessment.
  • An industry thought leader, with excellent social skills and the ability to initiate valuable professional relationships, inspire others and boost revenue growth and profitability.
  • Experience working in a “matrix” reporting structure across a diverse geography and set of cultures.

Core working hours are 40 hours per week; typically Monday to Friday 9am to 6pm although as part of the role hours will need to be flexible and may vary based on customer hours. Evening customer meetings may also be required during sales travel. This position is salaried and subject to a commission/bonus scheme.
