Job Description Summary

Under minimal supervision, the Senior Accountant performs a variety of professional accounting duties such as preparing financial statements and related reporting packages, analyzing and reconciling accounts, posting journal entries, accounting for fixed assets, and assists in the review of work development of lower level staff.

Job Description

The Senior Accountant:

  • Gathers and collects data to prepare monthly financial statement package.
  • Prepares financial statement analyses including comparisons between actual, budgeted and prior year results.
  • Prepares general ledger journal entries for assigned accounts, ensuring all activity is recorded, corrections are made and adjustments are calculated and posted.
  • Reviews and posts journal entries of junior staff.
  • Reviews invoices concerning capital equipment expenditures and prepares schedules for reconciliation of fixed assets, roll forward schedules for auditors, and performs the annual physical inventory.
  • Prepares analyses for assigned accounts, researching records and reports, identifying errors and submitting corrections with analysis and support to management.
  • Leads the preparation of miscellaneous billings to outside organizations.
  • Records investment funds' activities and reconciles investment accounts on a monthly basis.
  • Prepares investment analyses including reviewing and maintaining audited financial statements and K-1's for private equity and partnerships.
  • Provides support to various auditors including financial, retirement plan, and internal.
  • Assists in establishing departmental procedures for monthly workflow and handling of accounting records.
  • Manages bank and credit card accounts and banking relationships at appropriate levels.
  • Coordinates wire payments and ACH payments at appropriate levels.
  • Perform all other duties that may be assigned in the best interest of the Shirley Ryan AbilityLab.

Reporting Relationships

  • Reports directly to Associate Director

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or related field. CPA and MBA preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience using skills of a seasoned, experienced professional in Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
  • Has a full understanding of industry practices and company policies and procedures.
  • Able to work on problems of diverse scope where analysis of data or situations requires evaluation of identifiable factors
  • Demonstrates good judgment in selecting methods and techniques for obtaining solutions for difficult assignments and of diverse scope.
  • Ability to analyze accounts and make decisions as appropriate.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively.

Working Conditions

  • Normal office environment with little or no exposure to dust or extreme temperature.
