Our Oakland and San Jose Offices are seeking May 2024 new grads for our mechanical engineering group. As a member of the team, you will contribute to the successful project delivery for a diverse range of projects for HNTB’s clients.

This opportunity entails being responsible for assisting in the production and modification of design calculations, technical reports, engineering plans and specifications for assigned projects. This position performs research, development, calculations, design and delivery in partnership with the project team. Applies engineering techniques, procedures and design criteria for projects ranging in size and complexity. Leverages technical knowledge to assist in the execution and evaluation of project designs. Develops conceptual and detailed designs and calculations to support the project execution using current drawing and technical tools, programs and software. As a member of the team, you will contribute to the successful project delivery for a diverse range of projects for HNTB’s clients.

Additional Responsibilities Include:

  • Designing fire protection and notification systems such as automatic fire sprinkler, fire pump, fire water storage tank, and fire alarm. The design may include preparing the drawing files, editing specifications, or written reports with the requirements.
  • Reviewing projects for compliance with ICC and NFPA codes.
  • Providing code compliance reviews and finding solutions to meet the needs of clients.
  • Performing site visits to document building conditions and fire protection systems.
  • Classifying and evaluating hazards

What You'll Do:

  • Completes assigned work within the schedule and number of hours provided.
  • Supports the preparation and modification of project reports, plans, designs, and calculations.
  • Assists in the preparation of project quantity and cost estimates.
  • Assists engineering teams with organization and administrative support of design files.
  • Supports engineering teams with various tasks and duties including but not limited to research, data collection, field investigations, development, and design of projects.
  • Performs other duties as assigned

What You'll Need:

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering

What You'll Bring:

  • Preparation of design details, plans, and drawings within HVAC, plumbing and fire protection systems using AutoCAD and REVIT
  • Capable of representing the team to our clients for specific design elements
  • Conduct code compliance and research equipment selection
  • Performs calculations: hydraulic analyses related to fluid flow within piping systems, load analysis and duct design for HVAC systems including, fire life safety evaluation
  • Analyzing design issues with specialized software (CFD, FEA)

What We Prefer:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or Fire Protection Engineering, MS in Fire Protection or Fire Protection Engineering certificate preferred
  • Engineer in Training (EIT) certification
  • Knowledgeable in CFD, FEA or related software tools

The approximate pay range for California is $67,502.56 - $115,061.19. Please note that the pay range provided is a good faith estimate for the position at the time of posting. Actual compensation will be dependent on factors, including but not limited to, the individual’s qualifications, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities as well as physical work location within the state.
