Primary Purpose of the Organizational Unit 

The Department offers programs in three tracks: Clinical Mental Health Counseling, School Counseling, and Couple and Family Counseling at the master’s level and a Ph.D. in Counseling and Counselor Education; all are accredited by CACREP.

Position SummaryFaculty in the Department of Counseling and Educational Development (CED) in the School of Education at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro (UNCG) seek a colleague for a tenure track Assistant Professor with a School Counseling specialization to assist in providing leadership in the School Counseling track. We are searching for a team-oriented individual who will contribute their own experience, expertise, and commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion initiatives, and we welcome applicants from diverse backgrounds.

This position involves teaching, supervising, and mentoring students; developing a strong, focused research agenda and pursuing external funding; coordination and outreach activities; and program development. CED is home for graduate students who are from diverse racial, socioeconomic, and cultural backgrounds, and faculty actively mentor and advise students at both the master’s and doctoral level. CED has a history of successfully mentoring doctoral students and new academic professionals in research, teaching, and leadership. This position is a 9-month full-time position beginning August 1, 2023.

Minimum QualificationsCandidates must hold or anticipate a doctorate in counseling or counselor education from a CACREP accredited university by August 15, 2024.

Preferred QualificationsApplicants should have, or be eligible for, relevant counselor credentials (e.g., North Carolina school counselor license, NCC) in North Carolina. Professional experience as a school counselor is preferred.
