The Research Associate/Postdoc will work with Dr. Sylvester Orimaye to conceptualize research studies, design methods, and modeling, perform data analysis, attend/present at international conferences, and draft manuscripts (papers and proposals). This is an excellent opportunity for junior scientists to engage in hands-on programming, apply artificial intelligence to healthcare practice, and thrive in multi-institutional collaborative projects with esteemed scholars. The BevHO AI lab works with a diverse group of students and faculty, and it is an incubator for young students with a keen interest in AI research.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement machine learning models for analyzing psychiatric data.
  • Apply natural language processing techniques to extract meaningful insights from textual and audio data in the field of psychiatry.
  • Collaborate with researchers, clinicians, and data scientists to design and execute experiments.
  • Contribute to developing novel methodologies and approaches in ML/NLP for psychiatry research.
  • Contribute to writing extramural research grants.
  • Publish research findings in reputable conferences and journals.
  • Support and coordinate students’ engagements within the BevHO AI Lab.

To succeed in this role, you will need:

  • Master’s or Ph.D. in Data Science, Computer Science, Machine Learning, Natural Language Processing, or a related field.
  • Strong background in deep learning, machine learning, and natural language processing.
  • Experience in applying ML/NLP techniques to analyze healthcare or psychiatry-related data.
  • Proficiency in programming languages such as Python and familiarity with relevant libraries (e.g., TensorFlow, PyTorch, NLTK), R, and SAS.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
  • Track record of publications in reputable conferences and journals.
