DPL is hiring a full time Library Programming Associate for the Ford-Warren Branch Library. In this position, you will create positive experiences for library customers by providing programming and outreach designed to educate and promote library usage to a wide variety of audiences with an emphasis on tween and teen engagement. Provide superior trauma-informed customer service while demonstrating integrity and commitment to innovation, efficiency, and stewardship. Collaborate with colleagues to ensure high-quality customer service, programming, community engagement, and outreach. Plan, design, implement, and evaluate programs and events on a regular basis. Build and maintain community partnerships. Communicate effectively about issues and initiatives with customers, staff, and administration. Participate in relevant library committee work by leading meetings or contributing as a member. Provide storytimes, early learning, and teen programming. Work closely with the Branch Supervisor and provide backup and support for programming planned and hosted by the library when needed. Support other library functions as needed.

About Our Branch

The Ford-Warren Branch Library is a medium-sized branch in one of the oldest African American communities in Denver located in the Whittier Neighborhood. We are a community branch with generations of families who have lived in the neighborhood for years and young families moving in, all visiting the library regularly. We are a block away from Mcauliffe Manual/Manual High School and we have a large number of after-school youths. We pride ourselves on our customer service, a welcoming space and connecting with our customers daily.

  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Ability to work self-sufficiently on multiple projects simultaneously while maintaining a keen attention to detail and meeting deadlines.
  • A demonstrated and active commitment to EDI (equity, diversity and inclusion), intellectual freedom, and social justice, and trauma-informed care for all ages.
  • Ability to translate demographic information, listen to and evaluate community needs and design responsive services and programming, including the ability to facilitate group conversations in order to understand the surrounding community.
  • Serves as a liaison or community representative, serving on various committees, works with internal and external customers, develops community partnerships, and responds to inquiries for additional information.
  • Skill in choosing appropriate materials for programming and outreach.
  • Familiarity with Google Suite software and the ability to embrace the challenge of learning new software and technology.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to developing and maintaining a welcoming environment for young people, including babies, toddlers, preschoolers, grade schoolers, with an emphasis on teen customers.
  • Knowledge and experience with developing and presenting storytimes for children of all ages.
  • Experience working with teens.
  • Takes a leadership role in developing, implementing and evaluating teen services.
  • Plans a variety of teen programs appropriate to their identified interests and developmental needs, including reading challenges, crafts, games, and presentations.
  • Ability to demonstrate positive attitude, excellent interpersonal skills, cultural sensitivity and a sense of humor in working with customers, coworkers, volunteers and community.
  • Ability to creatively solve problems, negotiate and handle stressful situations in a positive manner.
  • Ability to pass a background check after the offer to hire has been made. 
  • Bilingual - Second language preferred but not required.
  • A reliable form of transportation (strongly preferred).

The ideal candidate for this position has:

Education requirement: 

Bachelor's Degree or a related field OR appropriate related experience in place of the education requirement. 

Education & Experience Equivalency: 

Two (2) years of the appropriate type and level of experience may be substituted for each required year of post-high school education.
