This position will primarily be responsible for supporting the TD AMERITRADE production environment from a leadership role.  Some of these environments include Retail Trading, Active Trader, Institutional, and internally client facing systems. The Senior Engineer position will assist in support decisions and coordinate projects that are in the best interest of a stable production environment.  This Senior Engineer is also expected to contribute to and influence the strategic direction of support processes and technologies.  This associate will also be responsible for coordinating other members of the department to provide the highest level of redundant support.  Responsibilities will also include at times those of Engineer I & II

Responsibilities:

  • Provide 24/7 on-call leadership support for designated systems as well as for other department Engineers
  • Study software documentation to understand our applications business and technical alignment for providing maximum support
  • Oversee and manage the quick restoration of escalated incidents
  • Capacity and performance management for TDA critical applications
  • Optimization of application performance and distribution
  • Application monitoring toolset administration
  • Drive improvement in operational teams ability to identify , restore, and reduce outages
  • Provide SME on application and infrastructure integration
  • Analyze statistics and Incidents to develop and execute availability improvement plans
  • Provide direction for vendors to design technical solutions to complex application issues
  • Provide leadership and direction for Engineer I and II associates within Production Support Applications as well as Level I support departments
  • Focus on driving application monitoring and management toolset functionality to the L1 and L2 positions
  • Critical focus on organizational ability to provide service restoration and reduction of Mean Time To Restoration (MTTR)
  • Manage Engineer I and II production escalations
  • Carry out managerial tasks delegated by management
  • Reinforce TD AMERITRADE’S Core Values within department
  • Assist in administrative staff management through delegated tasks like PTO scheduling, resource planning, cross training, and leadership direction
  • Manage multiple small operational-projects requiring internal and external technology resources
  • Manage the collection and distribution of weekly and monthly metrics
  • Communicate to the Management about service disruption and take initial measures for damage control
  • Provide outage and service restoration details to Operations Command Center for degradation statistics and root cause analysis
  • Ensure excellent service to all Production Support clients and business partners
  • Communicate process and operational changes to department staff.
  • Perform and oversee the successful maintenance on application servers and track system performance
  • Maintain space requirements on servers
  • Recognize opportunities for improved process or procedures
  • Take initiate to implement plans to improve process

Requirements:

  • Windows and Linux OS administration
  • Layer 1-4 network administration experience
  • Infrastructure and middleware support experience
  • Strong experience with jboss, Tibco AMX, Tomcat, TC, Apache, Websphere, and Pivotal Cloud Foundry
  • Strong experience troubleshooting JVM performance
  • Javascript and java experience
  • Perl  and Shell Scripting
  • Financial Markets Experience
  • Strong learning agility, curiosity and problem solving skills
  • Solid written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to act independently with limited supervision within scope of responsibility.
  • Strong leadership skills.  Ability to take charge and lead others in service restoration
  • Ability to cross train and provide direction for other associates
  • Ability to practice Continuous Process Improvement
  • Strong People Management Skills
  • Agility when dealing with multiple projects and production issues
  • Ability to make critical decisions in critical moments
  • Application Management experience
  • ITIL Foundation Certified
  • Linux Administrator Certification
  • 4 Year College Degree preferred
