The North Warning System (NWS) is a joint Canada and United States radar system that includes 47 sites spanning the Arctic from Labrador to the Alaskan border. The NWS provides the capability to detect airborne threats across North America’s polar region, providing a command and control capability to the Canadian Air Defence Sector (CADS) of the North American Aerospace Defence Command (NORAD).

Raytheon provides Operations and Maintenance (O&M) services for the NWS including full care, custody, and control of the entire system and its components. This includes the radar sites, five logistics support sites (LSSs), a monitoring and control center, and a repair depot. Key activities include maintenance and repair of radar and electronic systems, power generation, and facilities; logistics support; and remote monitoring and control.

Job Description

Raytheon Technologies NWS is currently seeking a Software Developer / DevOps Systems Administrator who will be responsible for design, implementation, testing, release of a multi-server redundant 24/7 system. This role will involve software development, documentation and review alongside Systems Administration requirements. The Software Developer / DevOps Systems Administrator will work on product development of new designs and modification of existing software on various platforms to meet schedule and defined baseline requirements. This is a two year (2) contract with the possibility of an extension.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and execute system development for NWS equipment; including virtualized server environments, redundant server / LAN architectures, RAID storage arrays, and other system integration design.
  • Plan and execute software development for NWS equipment; including supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) systems or other systems as required.
  • Analyze hardware systems for compatibility and requirements in regards to software development or COTS applications.
  • Develop software requirement specifications, designs, acceptance test plans, installation instructions, and release notes.
  • Prepare and execute software upgrades on online systems.
  • Inspect software development for quality assurance (peer review).
  • Provide technical support for engineering and maintenance operations, including failure analysis in regards to software.
  • Possible occasional travel to remote areas of Canada’s Arctic to perform on-site engineering investigations required.
  • Performing other duties as assigned, which are unplanned or transient in nature.

Required Skills/Knowledge

  • Minimum of three years of job experience in software development and/or computer systems administration in a Windows server environment.
  • Knowledge of operating systems and applications, as well as hardware and software troubleshooting.
  • Experience with Virtualized Operating System environments.
  • Self-motivated and highly organized to keep track of multiple projects and adapt in a fast paced environment.
  • Excellent oral/written communications with the ability to present and explain technical information to both engineers and non-technical staff.
  • Proficiency in a variety of software languages (C/C++, VB, or .NET).
  • Proficiency with MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, etc).

Desired Skills/Knowledge

  • Experience with database driven systems (SQL or Microsoft SQL server) and scripting (Perl and/or C#).
  • Experience managing or maintaining a Windows Server 2003 Environment.
  • Experience with Linux / UNIX operating systems and servers.
  • Familiarity with software version control systems (GIT, Subversion, etc).

Education Requirement

  • Post-secondary Diploma or Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Technology, Computer Science, Software Development or Computer Engineering.
