The Role

We are seeking an exceptionally talented 2nd year college students to join the Global Operation Technology Technology team as software developers. During your ten weeks with this experienced engineering team you will be working working alongside talented professionals on high profile projects.

Software Engineers at Schonfeld take on a wide range of responsibilities and challenges. We design, develop, deploy and support existing applications as well as new features and platforms. We participate in an Agile framework, continuously improving and expanding platform capabilities.

During your internship with Global Operations Technology, you can expect to:

  • Build state of the art real-time applications that Schonfeld relies on to comply with global financial regulations
  • Be immersed in a highly focused application development team with a culture of regular software delivery
  • Write real application logic and put your code into production
  • Learn about different regulatory requirements around the world and gain an understanding of how Schonfeld uses technology to comply with these regulations

What you’ll do

The Software Engineer will be responsible for helping to expand and maintain our real-time clearing and trade processing platform. You will design, develop, and deploy solutions to optimize complex workflows. You will contribute to a highly supportable, future-ready, performant code base that operates without latency. You will work with a modern tech stack – building microservices that deploy to the cloud (AWS) using containers. The ideal candidate will have a proven ability to solve problems and an interest in continuous improvement and learning.

What you’ll need

  • Someone who has demonstrated software engineering skills from previous internships, coding competitions, or publications
  • Interest and experience in a programming language particularly Java
  • Some basic knowledge of Git, and databases
  • High levels of creativity and quick problem-solving capabilities
  • Interest in Capital Markets or Finance
  • Strong interest in taking ownership of their work
  • Experience with messaging systems (Kafka preferred)
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal

  • Experience and knowledge of:
  • Cloud services such as AWS
  • Containerization and orchestration tools such as Docker and Kubernetes
  • DevOps methodologies such as CI/CD and build automation

Our Internship

The Schonfeld summer internship provides students with a unique opportunity to experience Schonfeld, our work, our people, and our culture.

Each summer intern will work on a tailored project that will provide them with real world experience. We provide all interns with a dedicated mentor and manager to help them navigate the summer successfully. Interns will also participate in our learning program, the Sapphire: Summer Session, which aims to provide tangible skills training and education on various functions across the firm and in the workplace. Along with the hands-on guidance and support from managers and mentors, interns will participate in weekly networking events, engage with our Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Alliance, attend panel discussions, and have many opportunities to get to know Schonfeld’s core values in practice.

The annual base pay for this role is expected to be between $45,000 and $52,000 which will be prorated based on internship start and end date. The expected base pay range is based on information at the time this post was generated. Actual compensation for the successful candidate will be determined based on a variety of factors such as skills, qualifications and experience and level of education.
