We are seeking a Senior Human Resource Manager to join a collaborative, fun, supportive, yet high performing team who are market leading and award winning. This role is a key member of our team, managing key aspects of HR operations and develop and deliver people plans for Guardian Australia’s commercial and operations (CommOps) department, ensuring alignment with strategy, organisational culture and the evolving needs of the business. Responsible for leading the ongoing implementation and operation of Guardian Australia’s global HRIS, Oracle Fusion and proactively driving and implementing GA’s diversity and inclusion strategy and champion initiatives across the organisation

In this role you will…

  • Deliver a consistent, reliable service to employees and act as a trusted advisor to key stakeholders across the business
  • Role model Guardian Australia’s values and behaviours and drive/reinforce company culture
  • Manage HR Administrator
  • Support the broader HR team with editorial HR operational activities, including recruitment and onboarding, as required

HR operations

  • Manage full cycle recruitment activity for CommOps, including advertising, shortlisting, applicant tracking maintenance, interview scheduling/interviewing, reference checking, contract drafting and processing new starter paperwork, ensuring all recruitment practices adhere to Guardian Australia’s recruitment policy
  • Manage onboarding process for CommOps new starters including working with IT and the HR Administrator to ensure new starters are set up appropriately, completing orientations, facilitating compliance training and taking all new starters through key policies and procedures 
  • Manage and coordinate compensation review for CommOps and any other cyclical activity determined by internal policy or external legal / compliance requirements
  • Manage the CommOps performance development review process, including delivery of training to new staff and managers
  • Manage and oversee learning and development activity for CommOps, including day to day training logistics 
  • Support HR Director with annual staff survey, collaborating with Managing Director to identify CommOps-specific actions and presenting results
  • Advise CommOps employees on leave entitlements and other core benefits, including researching and promoting new schemes/initiatives 
  • Provide advice to CommOps managers and leaders on a range of areas including: reward, people development, contractual issues, organisation change
  • Ensure flexible working requests are dealt with in a timely manner and manage administration associated with parental leave requests

HRIS management

  • Lead the ongoing implementation and operation of Guardian Australia’s global HRIS, Oracle Fusion:
  • Act as the key Guardian Australia HR contact and subject matter expert for Oracle Fusion
  • Responsible for the successful implementation, maintenance, operations, and optimisation of Oracle Fusion in Australia for HR, in addition to any other future HR integrations with Oracle 
  • Develop user-friendly procedures, guidelines, and workflows 
  • Facilitate system training for new users and any changes/upgrades 
  • Provide technical support, troubleshooting, and guidance as needed
  • Identify and troubleshoot system issues and work with others (Oracle teams, Guardian UK Oracle teams, IT) to resolve
  • Assist with people data analytics and reporting capabilities, ensuring Oracle is optimised to reduce manual reporting
  • Work closely with Guardian Australia’s cross functional finance team to ensure accuracy of status changes, compensation, benefits administration and leave related issues
  • Work closely with Guardian Australia’s cross functional administration teams
  • Collaborate with leadership and key stakeholders to support the implementation and delivery of new functionality and enhancements
  • Identify opportunities for process improvement, automation, operational efficiencies, and security

Diversity and inclusion

  • Act as an advisor to the CommOps business assisting in driving forward the diversity and inclusion agenda, best practices and latest updates within the industry 
  • Support HR Director to facilitate annual demographic diversity survey, including benchmarking, analysing and reporting to highlight trends, defining future areas of focus and measuring impact of diversity and inclusion programs and initiatives
  • In collaboration with the HR Director, present updates on diversity and inclusion initiatives to the wider organisation 
  • Support HR Director with the development and implementation of future Reconciliation Action Plan plans, including raising the profile of reconciliation as an organisational priority and actioning assigned actions and deliverables
  • Attend industry HR and diversity events to learn best practice and build solid networks
  • Support the planning and delivery of diversity and inclusion events and partner with HR team and internal communications to deliver engaging and consistent communications on diversity and inclusion activities
  • Provide leadership and governance to GA’s diversity and inclusion action plans 
  • Collaborate with Managing Director and CommOps senior management team to design and plan department led wellness, diversity and inclusion initiatives 

Workplace Health & Safety

  • Promote a safe and secure workplace; organise ergonomic assessments, administer workers compensation claims and develop staff rehabilitation plans as needed
  • Work with the Office & Sustainability Manager to assess and mitigate company risk with regard to work, health and safety 
  • Participate in quarterly health and safety committee meetings

You’ll bring….

  • Minimum 7 years HR experience, ideally as an HR generalist
  • 5+ years of HRIS administration experience 
  • Experience managing HRIS implementations/enhancements (highly desirable)
  • Experience working within, or appreciation of, working within a busy media organisation
  • Experience of working at an advisory level gained in a high volume, transactional environment with disciplinary, grievance, sickness absence and capability investigation/cases
  • Understanding of sensitivities surrounding information going into the public domain
  • Experience of stakeholder management and working with challenging stakeholders
  • A sound understanding of the principles of good HR practice and knowledge of employment law/legislation
  • Experience in recruitment and selection 
  • Ability to interpret legislation, Awards and enterprise agreements in addition to contracts, policies and procedures
  • Experience working as part of a team in a professional environment
  • Demonstrable track record in working in a fast-paced, high volume role
  • Experience dealing with a diverse range of stakeholders and situations 
  • Previous experience of working in the diversity and inclusion space highly desirable
  • Knowledge and interest in current affairs
  • An interest in, and understanding of the Guardian brand
