The Solutions Architect works autonomously and as part of the larger sales team  engaging with clients to understand their key business challenges and IT priorities in an effort to  design customized solutions that meet these needs. Designing a solution will include activities such as running strategy, discovery and solution workshops, conducting client interviews, conducting secondary research, soliciting input from the Account Team (Sales, Engineering, and Services).  The Solution Architect will also work with product specialists, product managers, and other stakeholders in the design and validation of offerings and alignment to customer business architectures. The Solutions Architect should have excellent listening and discovery skills, strong interpersonal skills, proven ability to solve complex problems, be a big picture thinker and be able to visualize and clearly articulate the proposed solution. With a clear and agreed upon client vision, the Solution Architect will be responsible for architecting and designing the solution to realize the customer vision during the sales process and retain client ownership through to implementation.

The Solutions Architect is responsible for the design of complex transformational strategies spanning people, process and technology.  The role requires tools, frameworks, and design patterns for solutions. The Solution Architect is expected to contribute to those frameworks, develop reusable domain solutions, and mentor internal & external stakeholders on the use of the tools. The Solution Architect works as part of a team of similar professionals. To effectively build complex strategies it is important to build a strong network among peers and internal & external teams. A Solution Architect should be ready to take ownership of the initiatives and programs to aid in the sale and delivery of solutions. The ideal candidate will have a good mix of Technical Skills, Business Acumen, and a strong desire to lead and support the customer.The Solution Architect will be acting as a lead technologist and should have a broad understanding of technology, industry architectures and vertical market use- cases.

The ideal candidate will have domain level understanding in cloud management areas such as automation, operations management, orchestration, and DevOps in addition to software defined data center components (virtualized compute, storage, and networking).  Additionally, the candidate will have broad knowledge of end-user computing and DevOps. 

Responsibilities:

  • Participate in and lead elements of the pre-sales process to understand customer business, technical objectives, and product requirements
  • Design solutions to meet the business/technical objectives
  • Present VMware strategy and integrated vision aligned to Industry segments and business case scenarios
  • Must be able to develop Vision, Strategy and Roadmaps deliverables to meet technical solutions
  • Ability to think past the products and create solutions to meet the business/IT needs
  • Work within a team to drive account planning with the customer vision, use case and outcomes
  • Work with services sales and delivery teams to map design into a product/services roadmap to help the customer to solve their objective
  • Effectively communicate solutions architecture to the customer, third parties and the project teams
  • Ensure that proposals are technically sound, deliverable, competitive and representative of market leadership in the application of technology to addressing business issues
  • Support sales efforts with delivery management and practice management teams
  • Participate in regional marketing events to promote VMware
  • Author blogs, technical articles or white paper based on experiences
  • Provide feedback to Product Management based on customer feedback
  • Adhere to VMware sales process and methodologies on all opportunity pursuits
  • Participate in account relationship and issue management activities
  • Maintain proficiency in VMware service offerings, value propositions, and representative case studies
  • Obtain continuous feedback from the field, including customers, bringing IP back to corporate teams and making recommendations on future service offerings

Requirements:

  • 10+ Years of experience in a technical capacity in either Infrastructure, Development or Systems Management
  • Minimum 5+ years business development experience in a consulting and/or professional services environment
  • 4+ years as a technical solutions architect in a consulting environment, including time supporting sales and managing technical staff and implementations
  • At least 3 years of experience in infrastructure architecture and design of complex distributed systems environments, including failover techniques, recovery/rollback, and application partitioning
  • Well versed, and capable of working within one of the top four Enterprise Architecture methodologies.
  • Experience in a technical lead role for small or medium size teams
  • Strong presentation, executive client management and business development skills
  • Superior organizational and negotiation skills
  • Strong in architectures core to the cloud computing and software defined data center domains
  • Comfortable creating future state architectures for progressive technologies
  • Familiarity with modern converged infrastructure and hyper converged infrastructure platforms is a plus
  • Strong application software development for one or more of: Linux, UNIX (e.g. Solaris), Windows operating systems. Systems programming or OS internal level skills would be an advantage
  • Familiarity with Services Management concepts, processes and standards (
  • Excellent communications and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to travel up to 50 percent in region
  • B.S./B.A./M.S. degree or equivalent technical training
  • Certifications in related technologies
