SSOE is looking to hire a Chemical Process Engineering Department Manager to join our team. You will have the opportunity to lead and manage a driven team of 25 chemical process designers / engineers in our Portland, Oregon and Austin, Texas locations. This person will also coordinate with various disciplines within the organization (architectural, electrical, mechanical, structural, etc.) and will be an integral part of problem-solving complex designs for state-of-the-art industrial and high-tech manufacturing facilities for the world’s leading high-tech companies.

Responsibilities

  • Effectively lead, manage, coach, and mentor the process / chemical engineering staff with an emphasis on employee growth, project success, and overall performance.
  • Set clear goals and objectives, assess progress, and instill a performance-oriented culture with a focus on accountability. Deploy a strategy that builds, retains, and engages all employees through inclusion and teamwork.
  • Leading a team of engineers responsible for supporting numerous projects—including greenfield, brownfield, and conversion projects—through all project phases, meeting financial objectives and deliverables.
  • Coordinates with various disciplines within the organization (architectural, mechanical, process/chemical, structural, etc.) to collaborate, optimize, and improve work and staff sharing by participating in multi-discipline strategy sessions.
  • Identify strengths and weaknesses of department personnel to prioritize training needs and develop / implement a training program.
  • Identifies, champions, mentors, and coaches the development of the staff and looks for ways to elevate the technical and professional expertise of the team.
  • Assists upper level management in articulating discipline capability requirements in support of strategic and business objectives.
  • Identifies, champions, mentors, and coaches the development of our less experienced staff and looks for ways to elevate the technical and professional expertise of the team.
  • Facilitating and supervising the evaluation and employee relations duties, such as workforce planning / staffing, hiring, career development, advancement, and performance management.
  • Establishing, monitoring, and adhering to an annual planning year budget, taking action to make changes and adjustments as necessary to meet financial objectives, and being responsible for department expenses, profit, and loss.
  • Implementing strategic activities within the department to achieve objectives of operations and corporate business.

Qualifications

  • A bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering (or an equivalent engineering degree with relevant experience).
  • At least three years of experience managing people, along with a proven track record of organizational and employee development.
  • Demonstrated skill in multidisciplinary coordination and collaboration.
  • Knowledge of chemical process engineering principals, process engineering design, and/or facilities engineering within an industrial, semiconductor, chemical, or related industries.
  • Strong organization and communication skills, highly responsive.
  • Salary Range: $125,000 - $170,000/year depending on location, education, experience, and any certifications that are directly related to the position.

Additional qualifications would be a plus (but not required):

  • A master’s degree in chemical engineering or related field.
  • A professional engineering (PE) license.
