What is the Opportunity?

As the Paralegal in the RBC Law Group, you will support the U.S. Litigation Team. You will act as a trusted advisor to manage all facets of litigation and discovery matters, as well as regulatory inquiries and employment matters. You will interact frequently with other members of the Law Group, other functional areas of RBC (e.g., Compliance, Finance, IT), the front office (e.g., RBC’s Investment Banking and Sales and Trading business units), and third-parties, including RBC’s external counsel, opposing parties, and regulators.

What will you do?

  • Overseeing, tracking and responding to all legal process received in the U.S., including subpoenas, regulatory requests, civil and regulatory complaints, and garnishments.
  • Orchestrating discovery in all aspects of litigation, including coordination with the business and functional units, organization of documents for production, coordination of court filings and management of discovery and related litigation deadlines as part of the group’s calendar system.
  • Assisting the litigation team with maintaining accurate and updated information in the case management database.
  • Generating presentations for internal governance committee and board presentations and other litigation reports as requested.
  • Assisting in responding to reporting-related requests from third-parties, including RBC’s external auditors.
  • Managing and updating all case files, including electronic and hard copy.
  • Overseeing case budget review, analysis, and tracking of legal expenses.
  • Streamlining organizational and filing system and introducing workflow efficiencies.
  • Conducting electronic communications reviews.

What do you need to succeed?

  • BA or BS degree, or equivalent.
  • 2-5 years of paralegal and/or similar litigation support, experience with a major law firm, in-house litigation department, or regulatory agency.

Other Required Qualifications:

  • Ability to perform responsibly without constant supervision.
  • Excellent communication skills, written and oral.
  • Excellent organizational abilities, able to prioritize and manage multiple tasks.
  • Excellent attention to detail while facing time pressure and competing priorities.
  • Team player; able to work across organizational and geographic boundaries.
  • Ability to learn and apply new information, skills and procedures.
  • Sound computer skills; able to adapt and apply new technologies.

The good-faith expected salary range for the above position is $55,000-$80,000 depending on factors including but not limited to the candidate’s experience, skills, registration status; market conditions; and business needs. This salary range does not include other elements of total compensation, including a discretionary bonus and benefits such as a 401(k) program with company-matching contributions; health, dental, vision, life and disability insurance; and paid time-off plan.
