Collins Aerospace is looking for a Principal Systems Specialty Engineer Reliability, Maintainability & Testability to join our team in Marlborough, MA. We are seeking individuals with the technical skills and personal leadership attributes to support program development through the application of specialty engineering techniques. The successful candidate will participate in all phases of program life cycle, utilizing Reliability & Maintainability methodologies as they apply in our systems engineering processes. The Principal Systems Specialty Engineer Reliability, Maintainability & Testability will work with cross-functional team members for coordination assistance of all associated tasks.

This position is eligible for relocation assistance.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Support design and development teams by developing, assessing, and verifying Reliability & Maintainability-related requirements for mission-critical systems 
  • Develop Reliability Allocations and Predictions (hardware and software), Maintainability Allocations and Predictions, Failure Modes, Effects & Criticality Analysis (FMECA), Testability Analysis, Failure Reporting Analysis and Corrective Action System (FRACAS), Maintainability/Built-In Test (M/BIT) Demonstration
  • Work with industry standards and handbooks such as MIL-HDBK-217F (Reliability Predictions for Electronic Equipment), 217Plus, MIL-HDBK-470A (Designing and Developing Maintainable Products and Systems), MIL-HDBK-338B (Electronic Reliability Design Handbook), MIL-HDBK-454B (General Guidelines for Electronic Equipment), MIL-HDBK-781A (Reliability Test Methods), MIL-HDBK-2155 (FRACAS), MIL-HDBK-2165 (Testability Handbook), Software reliability per IEEE 1633-2016, Telcordia Issue 3 or above
  • Plan and execute Reliability testing, e.g., Highly Accelerated Life Testing (HALT), Highly Accelerated Stress Screening (HASS), reliability growth testing (RGT)
  • Develop proposal language and determine appropriate BOE (basis of estimates) for bids and proposals during pursuit capture phase of a program for reliability and maintainability programs
  • Mentor, lead, and delegate tasks to junior Reliability and Maintainability engineers
  • Implement and execute Design for Reliability (DFR) process 
  • Responsible for defining reliability test requirements for products
  • Develops new test criteria
  • Collaborates with project design teams to establish test programs and define test articles
  • Ensures that all products developed meet rigorous standards of reliability
  • Recommends improvements to products that do not meet test standards
  • Participates in establishing design constraints
  • Helps management set technical objectives
  • Coordinates efforts at all levels with other units of the company, including engineering, manufacturing, marketing, etc.
  • Works autonomously with limited oversight

Qualifications/Experience Needed:

  • Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) unless prohibited by local laws/regulations and minimum 8 years prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 6 years of experience or in absence of a degree, 12 years of relevant experience
  • Previous experience as a systems or hardware engineer working with thermal analyses or previous experience in developing reliability & maintainability analysis reports using industry known reliability, maintainability, and testability tools/software such as ReliaSoft (primary), Windchill, or Express to perform analyses
  • Experience with hands on failure analysis
  • Experience with systems architectures and designs
  • Previous work experience with military SATCOM-related missions, functional operation, performance specifications, and verification and validation (V&V) techniques 
  • Exposure to with Control Account Management (CAM) within the Earned Value
  • Management System (EVMS) framework
  • Experience developing Contractor Documents Requirements List (CDRL) documents per applicable Data Item Descriptions (DIDs) 
  • Previous experience presenting to a variety of audiences, including leadership and customers
  • Demonstrated oral and written communication skills, with the ability to effectively lead, interact and build trust with team members from many different backgrounds, including engineering management, engineering teams, program management, business development, support groups, and subcontractors 
  • Active DoD Secret (or higher) Clearance

Security Clearance:

  • Active and transferable U.S. government issued security clearance is required prior to start date
  • U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance
  • Must have or be capable of obtaining a US Department of Defense (DoD) security clearance. Candidate selected will be subject to a government security investigation/reinstatement and must meet eligibility requirements

Employee Referral Eligible

The salary range for this role is 96,000 USD - 200,000 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate’s work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.
