We use Machine Learning in almost every part of the product - feed ranking, NLP, answer ranking, search, topic and user recommendations, spam detection etc. As a PhD intern, you have the unique opportunity of bringing the cutting edge machine learning research into a product that affect over 200 million users. With Quora's experiment framework, you can see how your work during the internship affect the user engagement through A/B testing experiment.

Responsibilities:

  • Improve our existing Machine Learning systems using your core expertise
  • Identify new opportunities to apply Machine Learning to different parts of the Quora product
  • Work with other Machine Learning engineers to implement algorithms and systems in an efficient way

Requirements:

  • PhD in Computer Science, Engineering or a related technical field
  • Strong understanding of mathematical foundations of Machine Learning algorithms
  • Knowledge of Python or C++, or the ability to learn them quickly
  • Love of the Quora product

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Previous software engineering experience via an internship, work experience or coding competition
  • Proven track record of achieving results as demonstrated by grants, fellowships, patents, as well as first-authored publications at workshops or conferences, such as Recsys, NIPS, KDD, ACL, WWW and etc.
