Tetra Tech is seeking suitably qualified experienced Mechanical Mine Clearance (MMC) Instructors for its Humanitarian Mine Action project in Ukraine

Main Duty: 

  • Perform training as a member of a mechanical training team to teach all theoretical and practical levels of Mechanical Mine Clearance (MMC) procedures.
  • Assist in producing lesson plans and follow a formal training program.

Mentoring and Training:

  • Carry out field visits and mentoring of mechanical teams. 
  • Assist in producing lesson plans and follow a formal training program.
  • Carry out and prepare a Technical & Equipment Needs Analysis of organisations that are utilizing mechanical plant and demining machines for HMA operations as required. 
  • Assist with the development of a mechanical demining training area and supporting workshops.
  • Provide technical expertise to develop mechanical demining management policies and procedures.
  • Plan and deliver theory and practical lessons.
  • Support mechanised clearance teams, by giving technical advice and conducting onsite mentoring.
  • Give advice on maintaining and inventory of spare parts.
  • Advise on appropriate mechanical equipment to use for tasks.
  • Develop Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for each type of machine being used in country.
  • Assist machine operators to receive accreditation.
  • Attend manufacturer’s / Tetra Tech training courses on new machines and equipment.

Workshops, Servicing, Maintenance, and Repair Training:

  • Design, develop, deliver, and evaluate appropriate training programmes for maintaining and repairing mechanical assets.
  • Maintenance, servicing, and repair of mechanical assets.
  • Manage mechanics maintaining equipment such as tracked armoured excavators, Front End Loader/Backhoe machines, tillers, and flails.
  • Carry out inspections and assessments and undertake necessary repairs at field locations.
  • Ensure preventive maintenance programs are carried out.
  • Develop response plans to support machine breakdown. 
  • Ensure that the operators are fully briefed on all machine based technical issues.
  • Conduct quality control of commercial workshops that are armouring up mechanical plant for use on the project. 

Qualifications:

Formal training certificate from a manufacturer of:

  • Mechanical Mine Clearance machinery (essential)
  • Commercial Of The Shelf (COTS) Plant machinery (desirable)
  • Valid driver’s license (essential)
  • Military or Civilian formal training qualification and certificate (essential)
  • Plant Operator Mechanic, Plant Fitter, Heavy Goods Vehicle, Mechanic or similar (desirable)
  • Minimum of IMAS EOD level 3 or equivalent qualification from a military on internationally recognized civilian training establishment and certificate (essential)

Experience:

Provable experience of operating tillers, flails and plant machinery in a Humanitarian Mine Action program. 

International experience of living and working overseas from your normal place of residence and having the motivation to work in arduous conditions.

Must have previously held a position as an EOD instructor and show evidence that you have taught courses.

Should have proven, practical hands-on field and training experience and a thorough understanding of the following IMAS disciplines: 

  • Mechanical survey and clearance (essential)
  • Technical Survey (essential)
  • Battle Area Clearance (essential)
  • Manual Mine Clearance (essential)
  • Explosive Ordnance Disposal (essential)
  • Mechanical survey and clearance (essential)
  • Explosive Ordnance Risk Education (desirable)

Skills:

  • Fluent in English (essential) and Ukrainian (desirable).
  • Must be able to stand in front of a class and teach. 
  • The ability to work with an interpreter and clearly relay the subject matter to Ukrainian speaking students.
  • Resourcefulness and keep calm when things don’t go according to plan. 
  • An understanding of Ukraine and it’s culture.

Compensation:

Commensurate with experience and project/contract dependent.

A pre-employment drug screen in compliance with federal regulations is required, along with a physical if needed.
