J&J Design is looking for a creative and accomplished digital experience designer for the role Senior Manager, Digital Experience Design that will be responsible for defining, designing and delivering top notch digital experiences. You must be as comfortable conceptualizing future states as you are providing creative direction and designing engaging solutions, as well as, managing diverse teams and effectively working with partners to ensure timely delivery.  You will design elegant solutions that answer business requirements, and the emotional desires of customers and patients.
 
The role is located in New York, NY and may require domestic travel up to 20%.
 
Your contribution
  • Manage and coach direct reports, and guide their development path.
  • Collaborate with the Digital Experience Design team as they scope, plan, prioritize, coordinate, and conduct user requirements analysis, task analysis, conceptual modeling, information architecture design, interaction design, and usability testing to shape concepts and see them through to implementation.
  • Responsible for the effective design and specification of user interfaces and information architecture using participatory and iterative design techniques, including observational studies, customer interviews, usability testing, and other forms of empathy building and requirements
  • Lead complex initiatives, helping the team to produce personas, storyboards, scenarios, flowcharts, design prototypes, and design specifications that show how our digital products enhance and fit within the context of an overall experience and user ecosystems.
  • Drive decisions, give clear feedback, track issues, assist in estimating resource needs and schedules, respond positively and calmly to shifting priorities, opinions, demands and timelines.
  • Effectively communicate ideas, detailed design, and design rationale both verbally and visually to senior management and decision makers.
  • Manage external strategic partners and partner with other designers, project management, business and brand strategists, and hardware and software developers and various J&J and external partners to create cohesive brand experiences and best practices across touchpoints and to ensure that design specifications are implemented within set timelines and budgets.
  • Partner in the ongoing development of J&J’s design standards and pattern libraries.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree and at least 10 years of UX design experience
  • Possess change agency and business partnership skills at all levels of the organization including sensitivity to different cultures and interests.
  • Proven management experience: Track record in managing people and mentoring colleagues with respect to your craft within projects and within the organization at large.
  • Strong knowledge of user interface design processes and methodology, particularly as applied to Web and digital-based applications and consumer electronics including Agile and lean user-experience processes.
  • Knowledge of the capabilities and limitations of Web technologies such as HTML, JavaScript, Flash, and CSS and an understanding of the technical implications of your design recommendations.
  • A compelling portfolio of work demonstrating
    • High-quality experience design within a variety of projects
    • A strong understanding of current design trends, processes, and theories.
    • The ability to analyze and diagnose issues with existing design practices as part of the overall user experience.
    • A combination of strong conceptual thinking and strategic skills with an ability to understand customer needs, motivations and behaviors and translate them into actionable deliverables.
  • Strong project and people management skills. Must be able to function as a project leader as well as an individual contributor.
  • Excellent communication and organization skills.
  • A demonstrated passion for creating products that resonate emotionally with people
  • Proficiency with design and prototyping tools such as Adobe CS, Sketch, and a willingness to explore new tools.
