PeaceHealth is seeking a Senior Vice President Chief Medical Officer for a 1.0 full time equivalent Exempt position. This position will be working Day shift with shift durations of Variable.

Position Summary:

The Senior Vice President, Chief Medical Officer leads the strategic development and deployment of system-wide clinical strategies, clinical quality and safety improvement initiatives, and clinical outcomes in support of PeaceHealth’s mission, values and strategies.  Collaborates with system and network-based leadership teams to identify clinical quality and safety issues critical to PeaceHealth’s performance and mission.  Leads system-wide strategies for all clinical care, quality, safety and customer service programs.  Oversees selected nationally recognized partners for increasing PeaceHealth’s value equation (Quality, Safety, Service/Experience, Cost) through system of care across the care continuum; innovation, clinical informatics, medical practice activities, clinical leadership development, clinical competency programs, evidence based practices and operations enhancement projects and programs. Inspires the organization to achieve top quartile performance in quality, safety, and engagement in all communities served.


Reporting Relationships:

The Senior Vice President, Chief Medical Officer reports to the Executive Vice President, Chief Operating Officer, Richard DeCarlo.

  • Senior Director, Informatics, CMIO
  • System Director, Regulatory/Accreditation

     

    Indirect oversight for:

  • System Director, Physician Contracting (new – shared with Legal)
  • Chiefs/Presidents of the Medical Staff (elected physicians)


    Essential Functions:

  • Leads and directs the strategic development and deployment of PeaceHealth’s strategies and performance excellence goals for clinical quality and safety.  Develops and implements improvement initiatives, resource allocation priorities, and operational plans and policies.

     

  • Collaborates with chief medical officers, medical staff leadership and clinical leadership across PeaceHealth networks to plan, organize, manage, control and enhance achievement of the organization’s medical care, education, research, and community service goals.

     

  • Leads medical staff affairs and ensures accountability and achievement of physician alignment and integration strategies.

     

  • Creates, directs, facilitates and coordinates physician support, manages peer review services, and coordinates with other senior leaders on initiatives associated with clinical quality, patient safety, and clinical outcomes.

     

  • Oversees medical staff privileging, credentialing, peer review of medical staff across all PeaceHealth locations and operations.  Leads standardization of medical practice across the system.

     

  • Oversees the development and implementation of system quality metrics as approved by governance.  Develops management and governance structures for physicians.

     

  • Reviews, discusses and directs the negotiation of all physician contracts related to PeaceHealth and independent contractors.

     

  • Establishes systems to increase efficiencies and accountabilities.  Works collaboratively with other senior leaders at the system and network levels and medical staff to ensure clinical quality, improvement, clinical resource management, and patient safety initiatives.

     

  • Participates in strategic planning and in all budget plans related to medical services activities and ensures budgetary compliance.

     

  • Works in collaboration with network physicians to develop physician leadership educational development programs, plans, and on-site initiatives to raise clinical standards to enhance the overall patient experience and achieve high quality outcomes.

     

  • Chairs and/or serves on key medical, hospital, and board committees.  Acts as a key liaison between and among the board, administration and medical staff and research staff.  Represents PeaceHealth to providers, state, and national regulatory, consumer groups, payers, professional associations and other external constituents.

     

  • Other duties as assigned.

     

     

    Candidate Qualifications:

    Education:

  • MD or MD/PhD Required.
  • Eligible for medical licensure in the State of Washington.
  • Graduate degree in business, healthcare administration or related field preferred.

     

    Experience/Training:

  • Minimum of 12 years’ experience as a clinical physician required.
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience as a healthcare executive required.
  • Leadership experience across the continuum (both acute and non-acute care) strongly preferred.
  • Experience working with and/or reporting to Governing Boards required.
  • Experience leading and/or partnering in multidisciplinary teams required.
  • Up-to-date knowledge of changes in healthcare, emerging clinical methodologies and standards required.
  • Experience in strategic planning required.
