The Opportunity 

In this dynamic and influential leadership role, the Product Development Manager (PDM) will drive the innovation and development of powders, ready-to-drink (RTD), and ready-to-eat (RTE) products, from conceptualization to market launch. This position is a combination of project leadership and people leadership, and requires an individual with an advanced grasp of product formulation across various applications and a proven track record of bringing concepts to fruition.This permanent position will report to the Sr. Director Research & Development. 

  • This role involves working in a lab environment with exposure to all food allergens (milk, soy, nuts, peanuts, wheat, egg, etc.). Candidates will participate in tasting various product types.
  • The ideal candidate will possess a deep understanding of regional product development requirements and will have experience adapting products for diverse markets and processing conditions.
  • A significant part of this role involves leading efficiency initiatives aimed at optimizing product lines and processes.
  • The PDM will engage with cross-functional teams within the organization, demonstrating exceptional business acumen and communication skills to align R&D efforts with overarching business goals.
  • The ability to manage multiple projects, along with strong critical thinking, organizational awareness, communication, and analytical skills, is essential.
  • Partner with the Director and R&D leadership to set and achieve ambitious goals that reflect company initiatives and global market expansion.
  • Develop Performance Development Plans (PDPs) and advise on Individual Development Plans (IDPs) with a focus on cultivating business skills alongside technical expertise.
  • Mentor team members, enhancing their ability to navigate across diverse cultural and business environments.
  • Implement cross-team training programs, emphasizing efficiency, innovation, and global market strategies.
  • Lead the formulation and development of products, tailoring offerings to meet the varied tastes, regulatory requirements, and processing conditions of global markets.
  • Drive product efficiency initiatives, optimizing formulations for cost-effectiveness, sustainability, and consumer satisfaction without compromising quality.
  • Foster a proactive culture of continuous improvement, encouraging the team to explore innovative solutions and applications.
  • Ensure meticulous documentation of all development processes, formulations, and product efficiencies, highlighting successes and areas for growth.
  • Ensures accuracy and timeliness of Sensory Reports, Trial Reports, First Production Reports, Technical Briefs, and other documentation.
  • Cultivate and maintain a positive, growth-oriented mindset, championing R&D's role in achieving business objectives and fostering interdepartmental cooperation.
  • Act as a key liaison between R&D and other regions/departments, ensuring clear communication and alignment on business goals and product strategies.
  • Collaborate with finance, sales, and marketing teams to align product development with business strategies, facilitating seamless product launches and market introductions.

The Skills you will bring to the team 

  • Degree or equivalent experience: Bachelors of Science degree in Food Science or related field 
  • Years of experience: Minimum of 8-10 years of relevant experience working in the food, beverage, or dietary supplement industry; prior development and knowledge of dietary supplements is an advantage

  • Strong leadership competencies, including developing direct reports, managing and measuring work, and motivating teams across cultural divides.
  • Resilience and adaptability, with a proven ability to navigate ambiguity and lead projects to successful completion in a fast-paced, global environment.
  • Developing Direct Reports and Others- Provides challenging and stretching tasks and assignments; holds frequent development discussions; is aware of each direct report’s career.
