Summary

The Baylor College of Medicine Global Health mission is to provide high-quality, high-impact, highly ethical pediatric and family-centered health care, health professional training and clinical research, focused on HIV/AIDS, tuberculosis, malaria, malnutrition and other conditions impacting the health and well-being of children and families worldwide. We are seeking a Senior Coordinator, Business Operations. This position will require international travel for up to three to four weeks per year. The Senior Coordinator, Business operations should be proactive, with a desire to ensure that program goals and objectives are achieved along with possessing strong project management skills, including the ability to prioritize tasks in a fast-paced environment. He or She must be able to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, as well as be able to maintain meticulous records and have the ability to achieve program goals and objectives with little supervision. This position requires the exercise of tact and diplomacy in dealing with faculty, staff, funders and partners across multiple countries. 

Headquartered at Texas Children’s Hospital in Houston, Texas, Baylor Global Health operates a network of affiliated non-governmental organizations that support clinical centers of excellence, clinics and programs in Argentina, Botswana, Colombia, Eswatini, Lesotho, Malawi, Romania, Tanzania and Uganda. The Network provides specialized training, technical assistance and capacity enhancement to Ministries of Health and partner programs worldwide. This role requires full-time onsite presence with a hybrid schedule. This position is located at Texas Children’s Hospital in Houston, Texas and is eligible to work a hybrid schedule with at least two days of the week that can be worked from home, depending on scheduled activities and project performance.

Job Duties

  • Develops familiarity with programming throughout the Global Health Network and expertise in assigned areas.
  • Provides support for global health research regulatory processes, including tracking IRB status, assisting in preparation of new IRBs, liaising with research regulatory staff in Network countries.
  • Coordinates scheduling, administration and support for Network-wide Communities of Practice and virtual home.
  • Assists leadership in the development and facilitation of capacity strengthening opportunities across the Network.
  • Assists in the planning and implementation of the annual Global Health Network Meeting in Johannesburg, South Africa and the annual Executive Directors Meeting in Houston, Texas.
  • Assists in developing and sustaining relationships with internal and external partners to increase awareness of global health programming both locally and internationally.
  • Assists in the planning of meetings and events, as well as international site visits for BCM and TCH personnel.
  • Attends weekly team update meetings and attends Global Health Network Executive Director check-in calls as needed.
  • Serves as point of contact for GHC physicians and the Dr. Kelly DeScioli Global Child Health Residents (GCHR) during their global health years, and short-term learners in accordance with Baylor College of Medicine (BCM), GHC, GCHR, and Baylor Global Health policies and procedures related to payroll, travel, supplemental pay and other matters.
  • Maintains up-to-date roster of all global health faculty, staff, and learners abroad, including work permit/licensure status, emergency contact information, travel dates and locations, and other details.
  • Coordinates recruitment and interviewing for new GHC physician candidates.
  • Coordinates the continuing development of current GHCs through virtual GHC Town Halls and regular check-ins, and solicitation of feedback on GHC performance from in-country supervisors. 
  • Coordinates the relocation and travel for GHCs and GCHRs, including medical licensure and work permitting processes.
  • Serves as point-of-contact for learners interested in short-term learner global health rotations and maintains master list of short-term learner vacancies, liaises with educational program leaders and coordinators to support scheduling of short-term learners and logistical arrangements for short-term learners. 
  • Serves as Course Coordinator for the annual four-week Pre-Service Training course for the GHC and the GCHR programs, including scheduling speakers, arranging room and audiovisual setup and meals, housing for GHCs, pre- and post-knowledge assessments, faculty speaker evaluations, and overall course evaluations.
  • Maintains records on GHC numbers and placements.
  • Leads in development of the GHC Alumni Group to encourage continued GHC engagement and participation, including maintaining a contact database and establishing social media presence. 
  • Assists in raising aware ordination of regular meetings with site Clinical Directors, GHC, and GCHR.
  • Coordinates pre-travel employee health appointments for GHCs, GCHRs, and other global health faculty, learners and staff.
  • Maintains relationship with relevant staff at each Network site responsible for GHC, GCHR, STL, and other faculty/trainee housing, licensure, permitting, and travel logistics.
  • Maintains and updates annually the web-based global health pre-travel curriculum and provides improvements as needed.
  • Verifies each faculty/learner traveler has completed assigned pre-travel online courses.
  • Assists with maintaining the pre-service training website for the short-term learners working at Global Health Network sites.
  • Provides administrative support for quarterly educational half-days for GCHR program.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High School diploma or GED.
  • Four years of relevant experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in a related discipline.
  • Master's in Global Health, International Development, Education, or similar preferred experience.
  • 2-3 years related work experience required; experience of living and working in low- and middle-income countries.
  • Familiarity with academic medicine and/or non-profit setting preferred.
