The Challenge Ahead

BioWare is searching for a motivated, professional, delivery driven, hands-on DevOps Team Leader to join its online services team. This team ensures that BioWare online services exceed the performance, reliability, stability, scalability and security expectations of AAA games.

 

As the DevOps Team Leader, you will join our team of experts responsible for all aspects of online systems. From traditional, tightly coupled IT infrastructure to modern, microservices container based, loosely coupled Cloud environments. BioWare offers a lot of interesting and challenging tasks that will allow you to extend your technical and management abilities delivering interactive entertainment of the highest quality. The BioWare online services team is pivotal in ensuring a smooth and successful launch of all BioWare AAA games. The online team works in parallel with multiple BioWare franchises, each in its own phases of development, launch, and post-launch. The team is heavily involved in preparing for launch by supporting load tests & server optimizations, assisting in the planning & deployment process of new tools and services, as well as monitoring and maintaining the entire BioWare online infrastructure. Post-launch, the DevOps team is responsible for the stability, maintenance and cost of the Live Services. The team uses a wide variety of languages and leverages infrastructure as code and configuration management tools. You will be working with a large number of systems, both internally and externally, as well as reporting the status of these systems to the development and leadership teams. The DevOps Team Leader is expected to show strong leadership and provide management to guide the career of team members. This position embraces the DevOps movement.

 

Requirements & Skills

  • Proven management and leadership experience
  • Great communication, both technical and non-technical
  • Production experience with public cloud providers
  • Hands-on knowledge of virtualization technologies
  • Experience with web operations best practices at scale, architecture design, troubleshooting and performance tuning
  • Deep understanding of networking technologies
  • Excellent problem-solving skills to troubleshoot complex issues
  • In-depth knowledge of online security best practices
  • Familiarity with SQL and NoSQL databases
  • Experience developing and deploying open source tools and services
  • Knowledge of CI / CD tools (Jenkins, QuickBuild)
  • Strong automation skills 
  • Comfortable working with Linux and Windows systems
  • Ability to use scripting languages (Python, Bash)
  • Eager to learn new skills and ramp up quickly
  • Strong interest in scalable and distributed systems performance
  • Comfortable collaborating with people face-to-face and remotely
  • Ability to thrive in a high-pressured, free-form, product-oriented environment

 

Bonus Skills

  • Experience shipping AAA games is a plus
  • Experience with automation and configuration management tools (SaltStack, Puppet)
  • Experience with containers and orchestration platforms a clear plus (Docker, Swarm, Kubernetes, AWS ECS)
  • Experience with Terraform, Packer, Consul and Vault is a definite plus
  • Experience with LAMP and MEAN web development and other web services is a plus (Node.js, Nginx, PHP)
  • Experience with various programming languages a plus (Java, JavaScript, Go, C#, C++)
  • Experienced user of one or more source code management tools (Perforce, Git)
  • Relevant IT industry certifications is a plus (AWS, CISSP, VMware, Red Hat, Cisco)
