We are seeking a dynamic thought leader in translational medicine to join the Translational Medicine department at MedImmune. The Senior Director will provide exceptional scientific and strategic leadership to understand molecular heterogeneity of respiratory diseases, including asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF) and applying this knowledge to aid development of MedImmune’s exciting respiratory portfolio.
The Senior Director will help lead a team of translational medicine leaders, lab-enabled scientists and bioinformatics analysts to mine genomic and proteomic data from internal and external collaborations and clinical trials to develop high profile manuscripts and help establish scientific leadership for MedImmune in the areas of respiratory diseases. The Senior Director will also be expected to lead one or more Translational Science sub-teams that will apply knowledge derived from such analysis to develop testable personalized healthcare strategies. In addition, the Senior Director will represent TM on the cross-functional iMED team.
This is an important, high profile and visible role and requires an individual with outstanding communication and leadership skills, as well as the ability to build strong relationships with key stakeholders in Clinical, other relevant functions within MedImmune and external academic collaborators. The individual must also be viewed as a strong scientific and strategic leader who can work with a fast-paced clinical and product development organization to translate fundamental insights into the molecular heterogeneity of respiratory diseases into targeted therapeutic and biomarker hypotheses that can be tested in clinical trials. The successful candidate is expected to drive the publication of biomarker data in top-tier scientific, technical or medical journals.
Education: MD, PhD/MD or PhD degree in a relevant scientific field (e.g. molecular biology, cell signaling, bioinformatics). Individual must have a minimum of 15-20 years post-MD/PhD experience in an academic and/or industry setting.
In addition, this individual should have an outstanding record of innovative contributions to translational sciences in respiratory disease particularly COPD as evidenced by a strong publication record including first / senior-authored publications in top-tier journals, inventorship on crucial patents/filings and presentations at important conferences are a must for this role. Outstanding verbal and written communications skills are a must.
Ideally, the individual will have experience in analyzing large datasets including genomic and proteomic together with a sound understanding of critical development functions, e.g. Clinical, Biomarker Development, Translational Medicine.
