Role’s purpose:

ICL is looking for creative leaders who are passionate, initiative, and highly motivated to be part of a new and exciting R&D team.

The Growing Solutions, R&D Biological Product Development department, will develop new products based on biological means as part of ICL’s strategy to go into specialty fertilizer products.

This department will be composed of a cross-functional team of experts in microbiology, fermentation, formulation development, molecule delivery, and product analytics, and will work in collaboration with the field trials leaders from Agronomy, other departments within R&D, regulation, and Portfolio and marketing. 

The new department will be responsible for researching and developing biological products and investigating their mode of action, designed using various analytical means to support regulatory and marketing needs.

What will your responsibilities be?

  • The Plant Data Scientist will generate candidates for discovery projects with clearly defined hypotheses based on scientific papers analysis, IP data, computational molecular genetic tools etc. 
  • Develops genomic, computational, and statistical and molecular genetic tools for facilitating fundamental discovery at the gene/protein levels aimed to enhance crop yield.
  • Applies a combination of computational and AI-based methods to identify new insights using emerging technologies and next generation analytical tools.
  • Operates as a core team member of the R&D Innovation biological site, planning and driving front-end innovation activities.

Focus on new product development based on scientific research and unmet needs analysis.

  • Serve as technical lead and support scientific and technical content related to the latest scientific discoveries, new ingredients, and breakthrough technologies to fuel the company's R&D channels.
  • Plays a significant role in guiding innovation projects by providing actionable recommendations based on key findings from scientific research and unmet needs analysis for developing new products.

What are we looking for?

  • M.Sc or PhD degree in Bioinformatics/Computer Science/Plant physiology, or a related field.
  • Over three years of experience in agriculture/biology Data Science (a relevant PhD will be accounted as experience).
  • knowledge of programming languages as R, Python. 
  • Deep understanding of machine learning, including frameworks like TensorFlow, Keras, and PyTorch.
  • Expertise in natural language processing (NLP) and data analysis.
  • Experience with Data visualization tools such as Spotfire, Power BI, or Smartsheets
  • Experience with SQL and NoSQL databases (Hive, or Pig). 
  • Demonstrated advanced problem-solving abilities.
  • Experience with analysis of a combination of molecular, biological, ecological, and/or environmental data sets of different sizes and resolutions through scientifically accepted algorithms to solve complex agricultural problems.
  • Experience with plant molecular biology.
  • Experience with field trials.
  • Combine strong conceptual and analytical skills with the ability to motivate senior managers and cross-organizational teams to collaborate.
  • High-level English.

Special aspects of the position:

The preferred candidate will have a significant role in establishing a biological product development pipeline and building internal competencies.

This task involves high interfaces with partners from other departments within Growing Solutions, Global R&D and external parties.
