Job Description & Summary

The Delivering Deal Value (DDV) is a Sofia-based team that operates since early 2021 as part of the wider Deals practice within PwC Bulgaria and is planned to triple over the next 2 years. While based in Sofia, it is currently dedicated to supporting the DDV UK team in London. This means that all the DDV work is on UK and global deals predominantly with mid- and large-cap international companies.

Our DDV UK business is a market leader, assisting both Corporate and Private Equity clients in a wide range of high impact business situations. Most of its work is in the Mergers and Acquisitions (M&A) space, both pre and post deal (for more details see ‘About the role’ section below). The M&A deals the team work on a range in size from £50m to over £5bn and the clients include many of the most well-known brands and businesses in the world.

We recognise that M&A may be new to you, and this is fine from our perspective. We provide a significant amount of training to people who join our team. What we are looking for in the successful candidates is to have a strong foundation to build on, as well as a high degree of curiosity.

About the role:

You will be working on a range of the different products we offer as a team, including:

  • Carve out and divestment support – e.g. What does the business look like standalone? What support and transition services will it need to function? How can we help our clients execute the separation and ensure a smooth Day 1?
  • Taking control and 100 day planning – e.g. How can our clients safely take control of the business and manage risk whilst delivering quick wins through the first 100 days?
  • Pre-deal value creation advisory – e.g. Where can we see value for our client in this deal?
  • Buy and sell side operational due diligence – e.g. Has the business been performing well and where it might have over or underperformed?
  • What could be improved to unlock further value for our client? E.g. process improvement initiatives, quick wins based on industry best practices.
  • Synergy development and review – e.g. Where are the synergies between two businesses and how well has the plan for capturing these synergies been compiled?
  • Mergers & Acquisitions Integration – e.g. How can our clients protect and grow value in an acquisition? What is the right level of integration to achieve this and what does an effectively run integration programme look like?
  • Post-acquisition performance improvement using our Rapid Value Creation methodology – e.g. Where might value lie in the business and how can we generate sustainable cost savings?

Essential skills and experience:

  • Experience of key business application design and/or implementation to include one or more of ERP, CRM, BI, Middleware, bespoke platforms, eCommerce or any industry specific front/back office systems
  • General understanding of key infrastructure concepts and components i.e. networks, datacentres, cloud, virtualisation
  • Comfort around IT analysis to quickly understand the core IT, operational and back office processes, their associated costs to the business and any visible improvements to technology stack and cost structure.
  • Consulting experience (internal or external) and operational exposure
  • Excellent verbal and written communications - all work will be in English, often with native speakers and respective proficiency level is expected
  • In DDV in Sofia you will not be aligned to a sector. The type of client industry projects you work on will vary based on the demand and the current deal market dynamics, therefore a high degree of flexibility is expected

Desirable skills and experience

  • IT process management, improvement or auditing experience
  • Supporting IT transformation projects
  • Project management exposure
  • Business and/or process improvement expertise
  • Senior in IT function/ department or team (not mandatory, but an appropriate level of maturity is expected)

Personality characteristics:

  • We work hard together to make a difference in the business and we hire people who care about their colleagues and enjoy creating a happy culture even when under pressure
  • Comfortable around C-suite or senior stakeholders (predominantly native English speakers), as most of our work is done at this level; you don’t need to be an extrovert, but confidence definitely helps
  • Much of our work involves detailed analysis and report writing, so it’s critical you can stay on top of these
  • Expected strong work ethics, ownership and team player capabilities
  • Naturally curious; we love people who can apply logic and problem solving to difficult business problems

What we offer you:

  • Professional experience in an international setting with room for assuming responsibilities
