As a Software Engineer iSyntax SDK you’ll create the fastest image data transfer to enable pathologists to start diagnosing even faster

As Software Engineer iSyntax SDK you will be challenged to strengthen the scrum team that is creating the ultrafast transfer of imaging data and the software that enables us to transfer the data of a new type of scanner in iSyntax files.

Our challenge is to

Create components for processing large amount of pixel data from digitized tissue glass slides. This includes the encoding/decoding, processing and displaying of images on both back end and front end.

These components enable pathologists to review slides for diagnosis and advanced image analytics solutions.

You contribute to these components which are part of current and next major releases of our Philips IntelliSite Pathology Solution (PIPS).

Our PIPS improves the process in hospitals and research centers with deployed digital pathology. Image analytics solutions based on our SDK facilitate not only computer aided measurements and characterization, but also advanced algorithms for assisted diagnosis.

You will be working in a multi-disciplinary scrum team using the latest technologies and standards, e.g. C++11, HTML5, JavaScript/TypeScript, OpenGL/WebGL and heterogeneous storage environments.

Your responsibility

Design and implementation of software (on component or module level)—understand and communicate consequences of your design on the architecture.

Design software on the basis of design specifications in accordance with the functional specifications.

Finalize the design specifications and test the designed modules or components, so that the software in question will be reliable, efficient, easy to maintain and user-friendly.

Perform work in-line with the product development resp. software engineering processes that have been agreed in the department.

The Philips Digital Pathology Solutions venture started in 2007. We are establishing a worldwide business for total Digital Pathology Solutions encompassing an Ultra Fast Scanner for digitization of microscope tissue slides and a Pathology Image Management System. Our mission: In a world with increasing challenges for cancer diagnostic procedures and quality of patient care we want to be number one in empowering Pathologists with Digital Pathology Solutions via the best Pathology scanners, Image Management System, workflow and Image Analytics solutions available. This helps the pathology laboratory and the pathologists to work more effectively, leading to higher quality diagnosis and as a result better patient care.

To succeed in this role, you should have the following skills and experience

  • Higher vocational level (HBO) or university education in software development;
  • Several years of experience as software engineer in C++ and JavaScript/TypeScript;
  • Dedication to unit testing, code review and other quality-oriented practices;
  • Affinity and experience with working in cross functional agile teams;
  • Flexible and open attitude, good communication skills in English;

You’ll get bonus points for:

  • Affinity with graphics programming (OpenGL, WebGL, CUDA);
  • Affinity with high performance data processing;
  • Experience with HTTP/REST services and web development patterns.
