Department Overview

Pfizer Ignite works with innovative biotechnology (biotech) companies that are aligned with our priority therapeutic areas and are ready to move from candidate selection through Phase II. In collaboration with Pfizer Research & Development (PRD) and the Pfizer Oncology Division (POD), we provide support, strategic input, and end-to-end services including research, development and manufacturing. The Pfizer Ignite Scientific Services and Operations (SSO) team is responsible for the operational delivery of Pfizer Ignite projects, including; project scoping, pricing and negotiation, onboarding and execution oversight, subject matter expert collaboration, guidance and process creation, and biotech partner liaison.

What can I achieve and what will I be accountable for whilst completing a placement at Pfizer?

The successful candidate will have the opportunity to develop an in-depth comprehension of the key elements of Pfizer Ignite SSO activities and exposure to the full scope of research, development, and biotech partnerships. Through working in the Pfizer Ignite SSO team you will get hands-on experience in many critical aspects of operational project management, communications, and internal team, client and vendor management.

All successful applicants will have their assignment in the Pfizer Ignite SSO team - working closely with experienced members of the team. The successful applicant will become part of the Pfizer Ignite SSO team and will be expected to develop a sound technical grasp of and contribute to Pfizer Ignite project execution and team communications.

We aim to facilitate an awareness of other areas of the business across the course of the placement, to provide a rounded awareness of the pharmaceutical business.

Successful applicants will also have the opportunity to access an extensive library of training tools and participate in regular educational sessions.

Candidates will be offered participation in voluntary events such as STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) supported activities, and are actively encouraged to get involved in delivering science demonstrations to school pupils as part of the Pfizer STEM outreach programme, at events like Science Fairs. 

When can I start?

Placements will start on 2nd September 2024 and will run for 12 months.

PERSON SPECIFICATION

Type of person we are looking for, in relation to ‘Skills’, ‘Knowledge’ and ‘Motivation’:

  • Completing placement as part of University Degree at a UK University either through Year In Industry/Industrial Placement or Gap Year
  • Enthusiasm to learn more about the end-to-end research and development process and biotechnology companies
  • Self-motivated with ability to work freely
  • Demonstrated effectiveness working as part of a team, with good collaboration skills
  • Strong verbal and excellent written communication skills
  • Detail focused
  • Solution oriented and good joint problem solving abilities
  • High IT literacy (experience in Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
