Job Description

We've got a really exciting opening in our Legal team for a junior Solicitor to join us her at Experian.

You will be Legal advisor to the business on legal and regulatory matters (including product development, regulatory projects, Data Protection, Open Banking and FCA requirements). You will have the opportunity to support as the lead relationship lawyer working independently for the relevant designated Experian business units and as a crucial part of the wider team supporting on bigger projects. What you’ll need to bring to the role & Experian

  • Experience working as a lawyer either in-house or in private practice. Preferably with some experience working in a regulated environment- financial services would be beneficial but not essential.
  • Basic knowledge of the regulatory framework including FCA permissions, FCA Handbook and Rules would be advantageous.
  • A background which has provided you with exposure to any of the following: financial services, payments, regulated products, consumer duty, price comparison websites, open banking, AML/KYC, competition law and/ or contracts work would all be desirable to highlight your transferable skills but in-depth knowledge of all of these areas is not essential.
  • Exposure to and understanding of GDPR and UK Data Protection Act 2018 governance and its practical implications would be highly advantageous.

Work those matters - What you’ll be doing

  • Providing clear and insightful legal advice in a pragmatic and commercial manner for a number of different product areas on new and existing product sets.
  • Supporting the launch or update of products at pace and within risk appetite.
  • Collaborating with legal and compliance colleagues to find ways to empower the first line of defence to get compliant products into client's hands at pace.
  • Monitoring and advising on the regulatory directions and actions of the FCA and relevant legislatures.
  • Advising the business on data protection matters.
  • Proactively spotting and provide preliminary advice on associated legal issues and how to minimise legal risk (including, for example, privacy, product, competition law issues, intellectual property, discrimination & fairness, risks of legal proceedings, cross border issues).
  • Championing the use of innovative technology including AI and ML both within the business and more specifically within an in-house legal department.
  • Where necessary, for strategic or specialist knowledge reasons, obtaining and managing external legal advice within agreed budgets.

  • You will have strong communication skills with the ability to present complex legal advice in an easy to understand and digestible manner, tailoring your communications to your audience.
  • You will be motivated by interesting, fun and challenging work, working equally well both independently and as part of a team.
  • You will be comfortable providing advice in a fast-paced environment, proactively working alongside the business to come up with innovative and practical solutions to new problems.
  • Evaluating and mitigating the risks (legal, regulatory, reputational and conduct) will be second nature to you.
