What You'll Do

As a critical member of Avalara’s Corporate Communications team, you will support internal and external communications for our rapidly growing operations in India. You will report to our head of business communications in the U.S. and will work collaboratively to develop and implement effective communication strategies and tactics in India.

  • Collaborate the team members and internal stakeholders to write and publish daily to weekly communications for Avalara’s employees and people managers in India on theAvalara intranet.  Relevant topic areas will include HR, IT, Payroll, and Workplace (office management). 
  • Support written communications for Avalara’s General Manager of India operations, which may include emails, talking points, scripts, and presentations.
  • Partner with Avalara’s extended Corporate Communications team and PR agency partner in India. 
  • Contribute to the India public relations strategy and support the execution of the public relations plan in the region (in partnership with the PR agency partner in India). 
  • Prepare spokespeople for media opportunities and staff media briefings, as needed. 
  • Support coordination, planning, and execution of internal stakeholder meetings to drive alignment, present plans and timelines, and gain agreement. Work closely with partners from the People & Culture, IT, Security, and Finance organizations.  
  • Communicate accomplishments, unique company culture, and India perspectives to the global Avalara audience. 
  • Assist in developing and implementing new technical solutions to address challenges with employee communications and collaboration. 
  • Devise methods for gathering and sharing employee sentiments and feedback. 
  • Participate in the planning and execution of Avalara’s annual company meeting and India Town Halls. 
  • Assist with occasional content writing for India social media channels on an ad hoc basis. 

What You'll Need to be Successful

  • 10-12 years of communications experience serving companies with a globally dispersed workforce; preference for those with both internal and external communications experience 
  • Strong written and editorial skills, including impeccable English grammar and editing skills. 
  • Strong technical skills for material development programs (MS PowerPoint, Google Documents, and others) and communications platforms (Slack, Zoom, email, etc.). Familiarity with video tools is a plus. 
  • Excellent project management skills and attention to detail, with the ability to work independently under tight deadlines. 
  • Experience and confidence in interacting with senior stakeholders. 
  • Media relations experience with business, technology, and trade media. B2B preferred. A mix of agency and in-house experience is a plus. 
  • Experience writing content for social media preferred. 
  • A positive and flexible attitude for working in a fast-paced environment and ability to build strong relationships across teams in India as well as in the United States, Europe, Australia, and Brazil.

You will join the Corporate Communications organization, which is part of Avalara’s global marketing organization. Your direct team has team members located across the U.S., and we’re looking to add capacity in our largest international location.
