Position Summary Portland Community College has an opening at the Southeast Campus for a full-time Jobs and Careers Specialist in our Career Services department. This position has a minimum onsite work of 4 days per week and is critical for student engagement and success and will provide a broad range of services and programming that further the goals and mission of the Career Services department under the Academic and Career Pathways Guidance Division within Student Affairs. 

Portland Community College is the largest post-secondary institution in Oregon, serving over 60,000 full-time and part-time students across 4 campuses, 10 centers, and online learning. Career Services has centers on each of the 4 campuses (Cascade, Rock Creek, Southeast, and Sylvania). 

The Jobs and Careers Specialist provides professional career guidance and services to students, alumni and prospective students for the career center at Southeast Campus, which includes assisting students in identifying career goals and the development of career interests, major exploration, resume and cover letter development, interview preparation, self-branding, and effective job/internship search. The specialist will also support students in specific academic programs and provide industry-specific coaching.

  • Demonstrates practical application of career theories to provide multiple approaches to support the differences of individual student experiences, race, gender, and linguistic diversity, and socioeconomic status.
  • Demonstrates understanding of privilege and structural inequalities and how it influences practice, perception, and values with the impact to students and individuals in the career exploration and developmental process.
  • Remains current on technologies focused on career development and improving access to student-centered support.
  • Ability to support programming that creates economic mobility in career advancement for students and/or communities.

Minimum Qualifications

To be considered, your application must demonstrate these minimum qualifications. (Experience is calculated based on the start and end dates you provide multiplied by the number of hours per week worked).

  • Bachelor’s degree in Education, Business Administration, Human Resource Management, Communications or related field. Experience performing the duties of this job may substitute for the degree requirement on a year-for-year basis.
  • Demonstrated experience in an educational setting working with or instructing/advising students or experience in a business setting performing employment, selection, placement or related function.

Position Grade 3

Starting Salary Expectations $52,961 to $56,735 (Step 3); based on qualifications, experience, and internal equity.

Position Grade Salary Range $52961 to $91834 Annual Salary

Paid Leave: (Pro-rated by FTE for Part-Time Employees)

  • Starts at 13.33 hours of vacation leave per month (additional vacation hours with years of services)
  • 1 day of sick leave per month
  • 12 holidays
  • 3 additional personal leave days per year

Working Conditions and Physical Requirements Work is typically performed in an office environment. Incumbents may drive to business/job sites, meetings or career fairs, which requires the use of a personal vehicle. Student training site visits may require evening or weekend work.
