The Associate level role is responsible for supporting the Structured Finance/Financial Services (SF/FS) team in the maintenance of existing client relationships, origination of new opportunities, and coordination of internal commercial initiatives in North America. The SF/FS Associate plays a key role in identifying, logging, and communicating transactions and revenue events of existing clients across all sectors, on behalf of the Relationship Managers. This role also involves the identification and prioritization of new business opportunities and facilitating the initiation, development and maintenance of issuer and intermediary relationships.

This individual will work in close collaboration with all members of SF/FS commercial team in the course of their day-to-day activities and will support the achievement of the regional USD revenue target.

Responsibilities:

  • Strategic analysis and segmentation of regional markets to identify new rating opportunities across all SF/FS sectors
  • Collection and analysis of market data on target names to be able to accurately prioritize the sales opportunity in Salesforce.com (SFDC). Use SFDC proactively to ensure the database properly reflects the status of each prospect (both entities and opportunities)
  • Telephone and e-mail marketing to prospect issuers to introduce S&P and to explore rating needs. Identifying and prioritizing prospects and feeding into the STF team’s calling and outreach program via appropriate tiering. Seizing opportunities to organize face-to-face marketing meetings for the STF team with relevant issuers. Helping to move prospective issuers towards engagement and managing relationships with existing clients.
  • Supporting the SF/FS team in identification, development and relationship management of key regional intermediaries including rating advisors, investment bankers and debt capital markets groups. Organizing face-to-face meetings for the SF team members as appropriate
  • Preparation of information packs and ad hoc data collection in support of meetings undertaken by the SF/FS team
  • Attending meetings alongside the SF/FS team to gain experience in pitching S&P and to learn best practice meeting management
  • Assisting the SF/FS team with clients including the pricing of transactions and managing clients during the engagement process. Effectively coordinate across the commercial team, and in particular sales operations (transaction management) to ensure we execute new business in an efficient and timely manner. This includes but is not limited to the creation and tracking of all reactive SFDC opportunities.
  • Identification of market trends through market interaction, feeding this into the organization to assist decision making around development of new marketing material, new product development and pricing strategies
  • Use knowledge garnered from marketing activities to feed ideas into regional event planning and mailings
  • Must be politically astute and able to navigate the politics of large external organizations to determine where the rating decision sits and how to best initiate and develop a broad based relationship. 
  • Ability to interact credibly and confidently at a senior level with clients at the highest levels including CEO/CFO as well as across a variety of departments including finance, treasury and purchasing
  • Reconciling commercial demands with regulatory demands as well as internal policies and procedures – protect the integrity of the S&P franchise.

What we are looking for:

  • Experience of solutions sales ideally within a Debt Capital Markets / Fixed Income arena.
  • Bachelor’s degree required and advanced degree (MBA or equivalent) beneficial.
  • Strong influencing and well developed interpersonal skills including demonstrable evidence of the ability to credibly interact with, and influence, senior level executives.
  • High energy level/”can do” attitude with a strong sense of personal commitment and self-motivation.
  • Ability to coordinate across teams and work collaboratively with sales operations (transaction management)
  • Team player attitude and orientation.

Compensation/Benefits Information (US Applicants Only):

S&P Global states that the anticipated base salary range for this position is $59,800 to $118,900. Base salary ranges may vary by geographic location.

In addition to base compensation, this role is eligible for an annual incentive plan.
