An exciting opportunity now exists for a self-motivated, ambitious 1-2 years qualified lawyer to join the Legal team at Optiver as the organisation continues to grow and the team’s involvement in all facets of the business expands.

Optiver’s Sydney office is one of the primary players within Asian markets, trading a range of products. Established in 1996, we're an active participant on the Hong Kong, Korea, Singapore, Taiwan and Japan exchanges, and act as Optiver’s APAC head office. 

WHAT YOU'LL DO 

In this role, you will work principally to:

  • Review, draft, and negotiate a variety of commercial contracts including software contracts, IT supply contracts and market data contracts on behalf of various group companies in APAC.
  • Support legal work on enterprise-wide issues such as data privacy.
  • Develop and maintain our standard agreements and checklists.
  • Help us improve our legal control/assurance systems including policy drafting and maintenance, developing our document management system and reviewing advice received on changes in the law across the jurisdictions we work with in APAC and communicating those changes to the business.
  • Help us with our APAC company secretarial work.

In this role, you will also work closely with senior lawyers in the team to:

  • Support new business initiatives (risk assessments and contract negotiation/drafting) in respect of our trading activities (new products, new markets, new counterparties and financial intermediaries).

WHO YOU ARE

  • Solid law graduate with 1-2+ years PQE in either private practice or in-house roles
  • Ideally some experience already gained in a corporate/commercial context
  • Strong interest in legal problem solving and using technology to create solutions
  • Interest in financial markets and or trading
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Eagerness to learn; questioning disposition; attention to detail
  • Australian citizen or permanent resident
