Specialist, Global Partnerships - NBA Brazil



Position Description:

This role will help to manage the relationships with our NBA marketing partners while also supporting the business development side for the NBA's marketing partnership business in Brazil. They will be focused on assisting with our corporate marketing partnerships and using those relationships to build out broader marketing/media and event platforms to help promote the NBA brand and the sport of basketball across the country. The position will be based in Rio de Janeiro, working closely with counterparts in NBA headquarters.

Major Responsibilities:

  • Business Development
    • Identify and secure new marketing partnerships opportunities
    • Aid in the overall sales process (e.g. research new prospects for platforms and lead the development of proposals and letters etc.)
    • Work with other departments (such as Media, Events, Strategic Marketing) to suggest and formulate partnering ideas/platforms for presentation to potential partners (platforms surrounding major partnerships, media, promotions and events)
    • Develop and implement innovative and impactful marketing programs for and with partners including up-sell on new business opportunities
  • Marketing Partnership Management
    • Support the development of new event and promotional marketing platforms for the NBA's Brazil business, and help to monetize them through either direct sales, or working in a collaborative way with the NBA's regional sales team and the global business development team
    • Fulfillment of partners' contractual benefits and commitments including event sponsorship, promotional obligations and media advertising
    • Provide partnership expertise in the comprehension of contractual elements and understanding of partners' marketing/business goals, objectives, target audience and competitors
    • Coordinate partner initiatives securing the proper usage of NBA properties
    • Manage renewal process of existing marketing partners
    • Develop overall strategies and tactics to support NBA and partner business goals
    • Support business planning and budgets
    • Coordinate contractual process for each partnership and monitor their financial obligations
    • Evaluate effectiveness of marketing programs through research and benchmark tracking.
    • Work in a collaborative way with multiple internal functional groups including merchandising, media licensing, communications, events, business development, legal and marketing to best leverage marketing partnerships across the NBA's overall business.TV, League Pass, Social Media, events, etc.)
    • Collaborate with key internal groups to create and/or support programs and platforms that drive awareness of the brand and in which licensees can participate(e.g. grassroots events, contests, sweepstakes, league marketing campaigns)
    • Regularly communicate with GMG Latin America (based in NY) on key accounts and developments to ensure business plan budgetary goals and strategic priorities are met each fiscal
    • Assist with strategic analysis of Brazilian market trends and competition and provide local perspective, recommendations, and direction to Latin America and GMG teams in New York

      Required Experience & Knowledge:

    • Minimum of 4 Years Relevant Experience
    • Experience in managing a brand in Brazil
    • Experience in sports, entertainment, media, corporate marketing or related field
    • Strong knowledge of brand marketing and promotions, preferable with some sports marketing experience
    • Client management, strategic plan development and event & project management skills
    • Extensive experience in marketing planning and brand management
    • Delivering integrated marketing programs in Brazil that would include sponsorship, media, interactive and event-based assets
    • Fluent in Portuguese and English (written/ verbal), Spanish is a plus

    • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks with a sense of urgency and demanding timeframes
    • Demonstrated ability to manage and cultivate business

      Educational Background Required:

    •  Bachelor's Degree
