Summer Program Lead Apprentice

For young adults ages 18-30

Time: Part Time, Seasonal, 15-25 hrs / week

Program Dates: May 15th - August 31st, start and end dates flexible

Job Description:

Are you curious about sustainability, education, or hands-on projects? Do you want to gain valuable skills and experience while making a positive impact?

As a Spark-Y Apprentice, you will support our mission across multiple areas, including hands-on education, sustainable project deployment, and curriculum development. Working closely with staff and leading a team of interns, you'll contribute to professional development initiatives and engage in hands-on projects related to STEM, sustainability, urban agriculture, and more. This role offers a unique opportunity to further your professional growth while working at an inspired nonprofit in Northeast Minneapolis.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead, mentor, and oversee intern cohorts ages 14-18
  • Engage in hands-on, entrepreneurial, STEM, and sustainability projects and programs
  • Build and manage relationships with intern groups
  • Design and facilitate age-appropriate hands-on activities
  • Support planning and instruction of the Summer Internship experience
  • Lead daily project activities, such as plant care and maintenance
  • Provide direction and guidance to program interns
  • Create meaningful educational opportunities that foster personal and community growth
  • Obtain technical job training and develop occupational skill sets
  • Implement work toward achieving established training competencies
  • Participate in office duties and travel to project sites as required
  • Attend staff meetings and professional development opportunities
  • Perform work as directed by supervisor or staff mentor

Eligibility:

  • 18-30 years of age
  • Residents of the City of Minneapolis (ages 18-24) or Ramsey County (ages 18-30)

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Knowledge or coursework in education, biology, sustainability, agriculture, or entrepreneurship
  • Experience working with youth

Compensation & Benefits:

  • $500 stipend upon training completion; $15/hour thereafter
  • Opportunities for professional certification and skill development
  • Metro Transit pass available upon request
  • Mileage reimbursement for qualifying work-related travel
