Summary

The Zone Superintendent is responsible for providing support to schools and administrators in order to improve student performance. The incumbent in this position conducts regular visits to schools and classrooms and provides onsite leadership coaching. The Zone Superintendent monitors compliance processes and timelines, monitors alignment of school and District goals and serves and an advocate for the school. The Zone Superintendent also communicates with and supports Board members, leads PLC implementation and serves as a liaison with Cabinet and District Leadership.

Essential Duties

  • Supervises curriculum and instructional programs at the schools
  • Provides support and evaluation of District strategic plans and budgets
  • Develops plans to support and execute District strategic objectives
  • Builds instructional coherence with the District and the school
  • Provides leadership, direction, support and accountability to principals to ensure instructional and curricular programs are fully and appropriately implemented and evaluated in all assigned schools as aligned to the District Strategic Support Model
  • Supervises principals in analyzing school achievement data and to discuss implications for curriculum and instructional needs
  • Supervises principals in evaluating classroom implementation of state content standards and curriculum frameworks
  • Monitors the quality of District instructional programs; develops, implements, monitors and evaluates site educational plans Supervises, trains, and evaluates the performance of principals for all assigned clusters based on school performance, academic growth and operations management
  • Provides professional and leadership development to principals and leadership teams in alignment with the District comprehensive Leadership Development program
  • Drives the principal selection process by screening and interviewing selected applicants
  • Oversees the assistant principal selection process
  • Reviews and discusses teachers/staff performance with principals
  • Ensures implementation of federal, state, and local mandated programs in relation to school site instructional and operational programs Initiates and maintains ongoing and effective communication with community and parents regarding student achievement and school programs;
  • Supports school-based parent outreach programs and strategies to engage parents in student learning
  • Oversees the management and response to parent complaints and participates in parent meetings
  • Supports the alignment of functions between schools and central office divisions
  • Participates in District meetings, committees and interaction with the Board of Education
  • Provides Board Members frequent updates on assigned schools and works collaboratively with Board Members and District leadership to help resolve community issues as they arise
  • Reviews strategic plans and monitors progress towards goals and evaluates the achievement of set goals
  • Reviews, approves, and monitors the development and implementation of school site budgets, Title One, and Student Fund Activity to ensure effective use of allocated funds within approved budget
  • Administers the curriculum and instruction budget and ensures that programs are cost effective and funds are managed prudently
  • Works with various committees to review school’s staffing allocations and forecasted enrollments
  • Meets regularly with key personnel throughout the District to ensure that proper information flows through leadership, including establishing goals, objectives and long-range plans
  • Coaches and builds capacity in order to ensure the success of principals and school leadership
  • Advocates change within schools and across the District
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the appropriate administrator

Required Education

Master’s Degree in Education, Educational Administration or a related field

Certification/Licensure

Must hold or be eligible for a provisional or clear renewable Leadership Certificate

Experience Qualifications

Minimum 8 years of progressively responsible experience in Education, Educational Administration, or related field required; Minimum 3 years of experience as a Principal required; Experience in more than one grade school level (i.e. elementary, middle, high school) preferred

  • Strong decision-making ability and budget experience
  • Proven experience in managing personnel issues and community relations
  • Experience in assessment and data analysis & utilization
  • Proven ability to recruit and retain quality personnel within the academic division
  • Ability to develop and motivate staff to continually grow
  • Ability to deliver results based on established criteria
  • Ability to solve complex community issues in partnership with others
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office

Working Conditions
