Under the general direction of the Manager of Marketing and Media in Student Engagement (with a dotted reporting line to the Assistant Director for Communications and Conference Services in UH), the Marketing Specialist will be responsible for implementing creative strategies focused on campus housing occupancy and retention for University Housing (UH).

The Marketing Specialist will utilize social media, video, website, digital and print marketing, and admission and orientation activities to continuously promote campus living to a wide range of stakeholders. The Specialist will design and maintain all promotional and procedural materials related to UH under the guidance of their reporting line(s). The Specialist will work to promote the benefits of on-campus living to the larger university community, but their primary goal will be to facilitate communication with current residents and campus partners.

HERE IS WHAT YOU WILL DO 

  • Marketing & Design (40% of position) 
  • Responsible for creating marketing collateral for all UH initiatives.
  • Includes (but is not limited to) creating physical flyers/A-Frames for UH events; creating content for the digital display screens throughout UH facilities; supporting UH conference(s) marketing needs; creating video content; and creating/distributing the monthly newsletter. 
  • Monitors 130+ Resident Assistant programming & marketing to be compliant with institution brand guidelines. 
  • Creates a social media content calendar (and all corresponding posts) for review from Manager.
  • Assists in the development of the Paw Talks podcast for UH. 
  • University Involvement and Customer Service (30% of position) 
  • Develop key partnerships with offices across campus, including Admissions, Auxiliary Services, Student Engagement, and Student Orientation and Family Engagment to promote the advantage of living on-campus. 
  • Assist in the coordination and execution of key programs sponsored by UH or the Division of Student Success. 
  • Includes coordination of presentations and tabling at admissions and orientation events, UH showrooms and hall tours 
  • Attend regularly scheduled staff meetings. 
  • Serve as department representative to committees regarding marketing and communications, admissions, and new student orientation as needed. 
  • Some evening and weekend hours are required. 
  • Website Management (20% of position) 
  • Responsible for maintaining the department website with updated information and ensuring sites are current, accessible, and meet institutional standards.
  • Strategize website best practices with a focus on enhancing student and family experiences with room selection and arrival processes.
  • Supervisory Duties (10% of position) 
  • Hire, train, supervise, and evaluate Housing Social Ambassadors (undergraduate student staff). 
  • Hire, train, supervise, and evaluate marketing and communications graduate assistant(s).

Qualifications

Minimum Hiring Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in Communication, English, Public Relations, Journalism or Marketing and three years of related experience; or a combination of education and related experience.

Preferred Hiring Qualifications: 

  • Experience in higher education setting with proven record of increasing marketing efforts and outreach.
  • Experience creating a social media campaign with a proven record of increasing reach and following.
  • Expertise in Adobe Illustrator, InDesign, and Photoshop.
