Position Summary

The Salesforce Report Writer is responsible for design, development, configuration, testing, implementation, maintenance, and security of reporting and associated applications to ensure timely and accurate outputs that inform data-driven decisions that align with Advancement’s business strategy and vision. The Report Writer provides support to Advancement teams or leadership by collecting and analyzing data and reporting results based on the needs of end users and collaborates with various functional teams based on their area of focus, and IT to achieve business results.

Primary Duties & Responsibilities

Data & Reporting Solutions

  • Participates in design sessions to capture requirements for report development. Works with users to understand and document reporting requirements and translates business requirements into completed reports with appropriate security.
  • Analyzes and synthesizes complex and diverse information gathered from senior management and end users to develop new reports and reporting systems as needed.
  • Develops and enables solutions (reports, visualizations, dashboards) to support the University’s goals.
  • Writes ad hoc queries and reports using various reporting/database tools to support Advancement and University initiatives.
  • Executes unit tests. Works with application testers on the preparation of test plans, test data and integrated unit testing.
  • Carries out data and reporting strategy and providing training and guidance to Advancement staff outside the Advancement Systems teams to build data literacy and understanding.
  • Understands the security model associated with various reporting options and is capable of developing with adherence to University Advancement data governance policies.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with report and dashboard development utilizing Salesforce Reports, CRM Analytics, and/or Tableau.
  • Experience with reporting architecture, including ETL processes, ODS/EDW, and relational database design and development.
  • Experience working in higher education, with strong preference given to candidates with experience in advancement/fundraising.
  • Experience in a higher education technology environment, especially with Affinaquest or Salesforce
  • Strong knowledge of SQL, especially on SQL Server.
  • Experience with declarative development in Salesforce and good understanding of the Salesforce security model.
  • Strong knowledge of relational databases and the ability to quickly grasp new data models.
  • Excellent organizational, analytical, and independent problem solving skills.
  • Ability to critically evaluate information gathered from multiple sources, reconcile conflicts, decompose high-level information into details and discern user needs.
  • Ability to contribute and collaborate effectively as a member of a highly-functioning and productive team.
  • Ability to work independently and proactively with a high degree of accuracy.
  • Ability to collaborate with team members during solution design and build.
  • Ability to adjust to abrupt changes in priorities and strategy.
  • Ability to learn quickly and adapt to new circumstances.
  • High aptitude for learning new technologies.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • Four years of experience in data analysis and report development or related field, with strong preference given to candidates experienced at developing reports and dashboards in Salesforce.
  • Or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Salary Range

$64,700.00 - $110,500.00 / Annually

The salary range reflects base salaries paid for positions in a given job grade across the University. Individual rates within the range will be determined by factors including one's qualifications and performance, equity with others in the department, market rates for positions within the same grade and department budget.
