Associate Professor, Data Analytics and Machine Learning

The Faculty of Science, Engineering and Built Environment (SEBE) works towards excellence in teaching, learning and research by harnessing emerging technologies and drawing from industry connections and research outcomes to inform our teaching programs.

The Associate Professor, Data Analytics and Machine Learning will be responsible for providing outstanding leadership in research, teaching and engagement in the area of Data Analytics and Machine Learning. The appointee will promote the discipline and the School, providing leadership within the academic and professional communities in Australia and internationally.

Your key responsibilities in Education and Employability will include:

  • Leading teaching teams to develop courses and materials which influence teaching for the discipline in peer institutions or nationally, or across multiple disciplines
  • Developing new innovations in curriculum design which is adopted in peer institutions or nationally
  • Integrate industry and research practices to inform unit / course design across discipline in peer institutions or nationally
  • Working collaboratively with teaching teams across other universities to develop new practices and frameworks to improve student learning outcomes
  • Leading university mentoring programs, including contributing to development of strategy, policy and frameworks
  • Designing new strategy, policy and/or frameworks which support more accessible and inclusive learning environments influencing peer institutions or nationally

Your key responsibilities in Research and Innovation will include:

  • Leading large scale, highly productive, high-quality research, scholarship and creative activities
  • Developing and leading major industry partnerships and collaboration to enable major breakthroughs, innovative solutions for future translation into real world impact
  • Leading teams and succeed in funding opportunities for large-scale / strategic research and creative activities, demonstrating sustained successes
  • Demonstrate sustained and substantial national and international reputation as world leader, based on extensive body of work, recognized for quality, excellence and impact

To be successful, you’ll have:

  • A PhD in a relevant discipline
  • Evidence of original, innovative and distinguished contribution to scholarship and teaching, research and research supervision
  • Demonstrated success as an eminent authority at the national and international level in research and scholarship through high quality publications and exhibitions, as appropriate to the discipline
  • Sustained success in obtaining competitive external research grants
  • Excellence in engagement with research, community, industry and government to enhance the national and international standing of the discipline
  • Evidence of successful leadership of teaching, research and/or administration
