Summary/Objective: Through a respectful, constructive and energetic style, guided by the objectives of the company, the Capital Projects Risk Manager provides the leadership, management and vision necessary to ensure that the company has the proper field operational controls and systems in place to effectively manage and to ensure the successful completion of all projects on time and within budget.
Essential Functions
- Bachelor’s degree preferred, advanced degree is beneficial (Construction Management, Engineering, MBA)
- 10-15 years’ experience in general & mechanical construction including proven and successful operations management experience.
- Must have the ability for limited travel and to traverse construction job sites.
- Must have extensive knowledge in project accounting, cost to completes projections, and other performance data to measure job level productivity.
- Excellent organization, management, and delegation abilities.
- Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills for both internal and external interactions.
- Must have an advanced knowledge with all aspects of plumbing and mechanical systems.
- Must have an advanced understanding with MS Office Suite and project management software.
- Must be familiar with project based programs (i.e. Procore, Microsoft Project)

Responsibilities/Duties
- Communicates effectively with Owners, General Contractors, Engineers and Suppliers.
- Develops a complete understanding of project scopes, job estimates, plans & specifications, contract requirements, schedules, resource requirements, billing terms and profitability.
- Works with VP Operations on transitioning the project from estimate and preconstruction phase to a well- defined project execution plan. Including field leadership assignments, BIM and Prefabrication planning, and job productivity tracking setup.
- Assist Preconstruction in the review of estimates as needed. Augment estimate reviews by facilitating the participation of the key field supervisors in the review of estimates as needed.
- Review and approve all contracts in conjunction with the Precon, VP Operations, Director Business Operations, and Project Manager. Perform contract risk analysis Project site specific risk management plan; sub-contractually required notifications, measured mile productivity determinations / monitoring, steps required to preserve subcontractor right to claim, site specific production plan
- Manages Project Teams to develop and implement a complete project plan for each capital project and supports the project team with that plan to ensure each project is completed safely, on-time and within budget.
- Coordinates and allocates the movement of resources, manpower and equipment for capital projects. Including manpower analysis utilizing cost code data, manpower charts, accurate field task remaining to complete evaluation.
- Supports and helps improve all aspects of Project Management for the company.
- Assists and supports the project managers in coordinating their various projects.
- Review quarterly cost-to-completes with Project Managers, VP Operations and VP Finance.
- Reviews job cost records to ensure accuracy.
- Ensures monthly billings are done properly and timely with Project Managers and Billing Specialists.
- Manage the jobs change order process in a timely manner including work cost estimate, accurate pricing and documentation control with customer, as well as supporting project teams in effectively negotiating favorable change orders.
- Support project teams in development, analysis, and monitoring of CPM schedules
- Monitor superintendent relations with clients, architects, engineers and subcontractors to facilitate harmonious and productive construction activities.
- Assess track and advise on loss productivity claims. Connecting cause and effect in loss of productivity claims
- Works closely with Safety Director. Be safety minded and help others appreciate that safety is everyone’s job, not just a delegated responsibility for the Safety Director.
- Investigate potentially serious situations (i.e., significant safety or quality negative trends) to circumvent such problems and/or promptly implement corrective measures as required.
- Ensure warranty compliance with suppliers and customer contractual obligations.
- Manage risk structure and implement processes necessary to ensure adherence to legal, regulatory, compliance, safety and risk management policies and procedures.
- Work with Construction Manager in the development of a supervisory training curriculum. Coordinate with local unions to understand and utilize all available training resources. Coordinate with outside training outlets (i.e., SMANCNA, MCA, AGC, UNM, etc.) to develop and implement customized, supplemental training. Advise VP of Operations on training progress and strategy.
- Collaborate with local union business managers.
- Participates in industry associations.
- Work in collaboration with other department managers to coordinate and analyze the operations performance of the company in meeting objectives and to determine areas of potential improvement, cost reduction, or policy changes.

Education/Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree preferred, advanced degree is beneficial

Physical demands:
- Office: Largely sedentary, some walking, bending, and standing. Able to work on computer for extended periods of time.
- Field: Extensive walking, climbing, bending, kneeling and standing.
- Must be able to climb ladders and stairs, reach overhead and lift a minimum of 40 lbs.
