This is a great opportunity for a highly motivated Securities Services Lawyer to join the J.P. Morgan Legal Department.

You will be part of the Europe, Middle East, and Africa (EMEA) Securities Services legal team covering securities services business and related matters, and working closely with respective business representatives and other corporate functions, globally.

You will be based in Luxembourg and work closely with the Securities Services business on client negotiations, product development, development of legal policies and controls, regulatory change projects, day-to-day business support, and complex new business transactions. You will also have an opportunity to support the Payments Services business and Luxembourg businesses more broadly. This role entails extensive, independent contact with, and support of, senior business personnel and significant opportunity for career development within the wider EMEA Securities Services legal team.

Job responsibilities

  • Providing legal guidance and expertise to product teams throughout Europe, specifically although not limited to Luxembourg and the EEA, including general advice and negotiation and drafting of transaction documentation and contracts. 
  • Providing day-to-day legal advice and guidance on securities services and payments related products and services offered to an international client base and generally, ad hoc legal advice, as required.
  • Working with product teams and respective industry groups to assess and implement new regulatory requirements.
  • Assessing and advising on legal and regulatory risk, reviewing policies and procedures and processing changes to mitigate risk.
  • Instructing and liaising with external counsel, as required.
  • Advising product teams on the development and implementation of new products and potential legal/regulatory issues.
  • Participation in projects and the development of operational processes which have a legal impact.
  • Liaising with business representatives and legal/compliance colleagues and other control functions (e.g. credit, tax etc.) in EMEA and globally (US and Asia).

Required qualifications, capabilities and skills

  • 2+ years of relevant legal experience gained within a law firm and/or in the legal department of a financial institution, asset management company or other financial services company.
  • Luxembourg or EU qualified lawyer licensed to practice law.
  • Strong background in investment funds, including fund formation, management, and wind down; broader financial services experience would be ideal.
  • Ability to understand the business’s needs and partner with product teams to create solutions.
  • Excellent relationship management and people skills, with the ability to get along with a broad mix of people and personality styles. You must be able to form and maintain strong working relationships within the legal department, with clients and stakeholders, and work well within a team environment.
  • The ability to work independently, prioritize and manage projects effectively, escalating key issues where necessary. 
  • Strong negotiation and drafting skills.
  • Strong organizational and project management skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
