The Nathaniel Clinic is an Article 31 clinic regulated by Office of Mental Health and located in the heart of Central Harlem. The mental health clinic serves individuals aged 13 and above and adults with a specialization in those who are involved in the legal system. The Nathaniel Clinic is part of the Behavioral Health division which consists of a continuum of services for justice-involved individuals with serious mental illness, including outpatient clinic, health home care management (HHCM), assertive community treatment (ACT), and intensive mobile treatment (IMT).

The Fee for Service Licensed Psychotherapist is responsible for supporting the Nathaniel Clinic clients with a range of services including but not limited to comprehensive psychosocial assessments, individual and group psychotherapy, crisis interventions utilizing a variety of therapy techniques that can help with mental health issues, emotional challenges and some psychiatric disorders.

What You'll Do:

  • Manage workload using centralized scheduling that will require advance planning and coordination with supervisory and administrative staff.
  • Conduct screening and assessment in accordance with the use of validated screening tools to screen and assess for depression, trauma, substance use, and risk and needs associated with criminal risk.
  • Develop recovery-oriented treatment plans and reviews in collaboration with the client, collaterals, and consented stakeholders such as significant others, criminal justice personnel, primary health care provider, care coordinator, and schools
  • Coordinate care with CASES psychiatrists, nurse practitioner, and administrative staff and closely coordinates with others including criminal justice staff (e.g., ATI staff/probation officers) involved in providing services to your client
  • Use evidenced sequential screening for risk of violence and closely monitor risk and utilize risk management protocols to appropriately manage and intervene to effectively serve high risk clients.
  • Document treatment contacts using collaborative documentation.
  • Utilize best and evidence-based approaches to treatment consistent with CASES’ organizational culture; health/mental health integration, rehabilitation and recovery, and understanding incarceration on treatment engagement.

What We're Looking For:

  • Therapist will be expected within six months of employment to receive the Integrated Mental Health/Addictions Treatment Training Certificate (IMHATT).
  • NYS LMHC/LMSW/LCSW credential
  • 1-3 years of experience in a clinic setting or at least two years of work experience a licensed mental health or substance abuse program
  • Strong knowledge of new Article 31 regulations (Part 599) and best practices in clinic operations also required
  • High degree of computer literacy is necessary
  • Demonstrated expertise in recovery-oriented, evidenced-based practice
  • Demonstrated experience with diverse adults receiving mental health treatment, including delivery of treatment to individuals with serious mental illness, functional impairments and psychosocial needs (homelessness, justice involvement, poverty, unemployment, poor education)
  • Bilingual Spanish a preferred
  • Competence with electronic health records (EHR) and paperless charting
  • Must feel comfortable with developing a group curriculum and facilitating or co-facilitating group psychotherapy
  • Must adhere to participating in weekly rotation for emergency phone rotation for crisis services during off hours

Compensation provided is up to 30k in loan repayment over a three-year period. Funds are available on first come, first served basis for selected licensed positions located in the Clinic, ACT and FACT departments, a benefit from OMH that is available to full time clinical staff working in the capacity as a LMSW/LCSW/LMHC/LMFT/LCAT/licensed psychoanalyst/licensed psychologist within eligible OMH licensed community mental health programs in New York State.
