The Associate Director of Residential Life is responsible for coordinating department of housing efforts to promote student and staff leadership development. The Associate Director works collaboratively with department and division colleagues towards the creation and implementation of environments that intentionally foster and enhance the learning, development and success of residential students and staff. The Associate Director supervises three Assistant Directors and is responsible for half of the buildings on campus.
Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Supervision of three Assistant Directors
2. Professional Staff training
3. Provide leadership in developing the wellness programs and process for the Residence Life Staff
4. Provide high-level guidance and serve as a senior point of contact for staff grievances

Minimum QualificationsMaster’s degree in Student Services or related field and 6 years of experience in academic advising, education, residence hall administration, or a related field; or bachelor’s degree and 8 years of experience in academic advising, education, residence hall administration, or a related field.
Valid Driver’s License required.
Preferred QualificationsA doctorate earned is preferred. Direct experience with the establishment and/or coordination of living/learning communities is highly desired. Experience in mental health, such as counseling, preferred.
Knowledge/Skills/AbilitiesDemonstrated understanding of and commitment to student and staff learning and development. Strong verbal and written communication skills. Mediation skills. Facilitate communication between students. Identify, react and manage crisis situations, especially mental health crisis. Because of the sensitive nature of incidents involving students and adherence to the Family Educational Rights and Privacy (FERPA) Act, must be able to serve and support students in a confidential and professional manner. Must be able to generate solutions, collaborate with others, and demonstrate initiative.
Job DutySupervise three Assistant Directors of Residence Life providing active leadership in providing and articulating the vision of Residence Life and Housing. Actively engage in their area doing building walk throughs, staff meetings, and attending programs. Participate with team in the on call rotation to respond to crisis situations during nights and weekends. Provide general oversight and leadership for area of campus.

Job DutyProfessional Staff training –Develop, coordinate, implement and evaluate training programs for all staff within the residence life unit. Develop training programs designed to enhance staff performance in regards to building management and student academic success and the development of learning communities. Training programs include pre-service and in-service programs based on staff need and a program of formal assessment. Assist director of residence life as main line of support for professional and graduate selection.

Job DutyProvide leadership in developing the wellness programs and process for the Residence Life Staff. This includes, but not limited to, retreats, team building, mental and physical health resources and classes, etc. Provide leadership in the development of the appreciation events for Residence Life. This includes, but is not limited to, End of Year Celebration, staff recognition, beginning of year event, RA events, etc. Collaborate with other Housing, Division, and Campus partners, as required, in planning of appreciation events. Provide leadership in Residence Life Logistics. This includes, but is not limited to, Transition meetings, Opening and Closing, Move-in and Move-out, Fall Turns, Admitted student Days, Open House, etc.

Job DutyProvide leadership in developing, implementing and interpreting assessment data for Residential Leadership. This includes single time and longitudinal assessment of perceptions, satisfaction, and outcomes of physical environments, learning, and community. Provide appropriate department staff with analysis of collected student performance data to guide and inform practice for current and future operations. Develop, implement, and oversee professional development curriculum for entire Residence Life unit (e.g., weekly coordinator engagement series, mid-level leadership institute, etc.) Provide general leadership and support for staff training programs, graduate and full-time staff hiring, unit DEI initiatives, and unit logistical operations as managed by Assistant Director team. Provide leadership and training in crisis management for Residence Life Directorate. Covers crisis management duty rotations for Housing and Residence Life.

Provide high-level guidance and serve as a senior point of contact for staff grievances. Oversee department charge appeals process. Serve a unit representative on department transitions team. Serve as a senior-level point of contact for student/parent/family concerns within assigned area and/or as designated by the Director of Residence Life. Provides leadership and assists with oversight of budget areas in Residence Life. Provides guidance in the fiduciary responsibilities of each area.
